College Commitment: Kameron Osborn (2019 Prairie HS)
Sometimes it’s the love a college program gives a potential recruit that can make all the difference in the world. Just ask Kameron Osborn. The tough 6-foot guard from Prairie High School felt that love from Oregon Tech from the summer on out and after he made his official visit to campus this past weekend, he knew he had found his college home and followed through with a verbal commitment.
“They came out and watched me in Las Vegas and they said that they didn’t come out for anyone but me,” Osborn said. “I liked how they went out there just to do that. I went on a visit and I like their coaching staff and their campus is beautiful. Even though it’s out in the middle of nowhere, it’s beautiful there. I know a few kids on the team and it just felt good.”
Oregon Tech offered Osborn a scholarship after he played this summer with Team Fly White and then built the relationship through one of Osborn’s trainers, Scott O’Gallagher, who played against Oregon Tech head coach Justin Parnell in college. As Osborn got to know Coach Parnell and his staff, the bond was made. “He’s a young dude so we can relate,” Osborn said. “They’re just a cool bunch of coaches there, I like them a lot.”
The fact the Owls style of play fits right into Osborn’s strengths certainly didn’t hurt either. “I watched them practice and they’re an up-tempo, fast break, push the ball type of offense and they run it through the PG,” Osborn said. “If you’ve seen me play you know I like pushing the ball and I’m going to fit into that offense.”
With his decision made, Osborn will keep on working individually on his strength (“There are some big dudes there,” Osborn quipped) and then it’s his senior season where anything is possible. “Hopefully we can win league, get deep in the playoffs,” Osborn said. “I’d love to win state but 3A is loaded, so our goal is just to win league and then go from there.”
Osborn currently ranks as the #45 player in the PrepHoops Washington Class of 2019 rankings.
