Coaches Corner Part 2 : Coach Paul Williams
I had the honor to interview another good coach in the State of Texas and this time it was Paul Williams of Arlington High school. Coach Williams is a good mentor to young men and he genuinely cares about each one of his players on and off the court.
Dre: What made you want to be a Coach?
Coach Williams: It was being coached by the legendary Coach Robert Hughes who absolutely helped me fall in love with basketball and coaching. I was amazed with how he affected so many lives and brought our community (Stop Six) together. It was amazing to see him put guys from all walks of life together and get the best out of us all.
Dre: How long have you been coaching?
Coach Williams: I have been a coach for 17 years. I started out coaching 7th and 8th grade girls basketball before coaching at my current position at Arlington High.
Dre: Who is Coach Williams on and off the floor?
Coach Williams. On the floor I am passionate, fiery, and a teacher. Off the floor I pride myself on being a great husband and dad to my wife Bel and my four boys Jalen, Jordan, Micah, and Clark. They are truly the driving force behind all I do.
Dre’ : What are your goals for your team this year?
Coach Williams: We have two goals. First one is to be the best possible MEN we can be on and off the court. The second goal is to be the best team to ever play at Arlington High.
Dre‘. Who are some players that college coaches should watch for this season?
Coach Williams: I have three really good prospects that should garner attention from colleges.
Jaedaun Slack (6’5 2020 W) is the reigning Newcomer of The Year in 4-6A and a First Team All-District,
Jarquavis Kent (6′ 2020 PG) is an All District player and one of the areas best PG’s.
Javen Hutton (6′ 2021 PG) is one of the most underrated 2021 players in the state but will open some eyes this season and years to come.
Dre‘: Who on your schedule are you looking forward to playing against the most?
Coach Williams: Well I am just looking forward to playing. Each opponent brings a different challenge to us and I am looking forward to seeing how we respond. I believe this will be a very good year for us. We just have to stay focused and Pound The Rock.
