Boogie Ellis announces his Final Five
Prep Hoops So-Cal’s top combo guard announced his final five schools today.
Boogie Ellis, a 6-2 scorer out of Mission Bay High School, announced Tuesday that he narrowed his list to Memphis, USC, UNC, Duke and San Diego State.
Ellis said that he plans on announcing his commitment Nov. 9.
Ellis, Prep Hoops No. 38 prospect nationally, gave us a breakdown of his choices:
Memphis: “They have a great coaching staff, and I’ll have a chance to learn from Penny Hardaway and Mike Miller and the recruiting class is coming together.”
USC: “They have a great recruiting class and they’re close to home.”
UNC: “It’s a great school and a great opportunity to play right away on one of the biggest stages.”
Duke: “I’ll have the opportunity to play for one of the greatest coaches and also play on one of the biggest stages.”
SDSU: “Great coaching, great relationships and it’s hometown.”
Ellis, who had a big summer playing with the Oakland Soldiers on the Nike EYBL Circuit, saw his recruitment explode during the fall. “Blue blood” programs such as Duke and UNC offered and started actively recruited him, with both head coaches, Roy Williams and Mike Krzyzewski, visiting him at his high school campus.
“Meeting Coach Roy and Coach K was a great experience, especially to have the opportunity to do what hasn’t been done in San Diego with bringing them here when I exploded on the circuit,” Ellis said. “It wasn’t really a surprise, I knew it would happen because I worked so hard to prepare and put hours in the gym.”
Ellis said he will base his decision on several factors.
“My deciding factors will be who I have the best relationship with and who I feel I can trust the most and a school that has a vision for me where I can also play right away and be an impact player,” he said.
