All-Met Candidate: Xavier Johnson
We’ve been taking an up close look at 10 First Team All-Met candidates in the DMV. With all things being considered, our prediction covers three categories: individual production, team performance, and level of competition. We’ve been releasing one candidate each day, with the players organized in alphabetical order by last name. Here, we profile George Mason commit Xavier Johnson, a senior at Episcopal.
PRODUCTION
A four year starter at Episcopal, Xavier Johnson has evolved from an “old-school” pure playmaking point into an aggressive three-level scorer, a lockdown defender, and an adept paint getter who does not mind contact. There is little doubt that his role will be magnified this year, and we expect him to put his team good in position to deliver consistently strong results.
PERFORMANCE
In our IAC Preview and Predictions article, we tabbed Episcopal as one of the favorites to win the league. While Johnson definitely has help, we believe his potential to perform well on a consistent basis will factor greatly into this.
COMPETITION
The IAC is often overlooked when talking about tough basketball leagues, but from top-to-bottom the level of competition will once again be strong this season. Episcopal will compete in the annual Sleepy Thompson, which is a tough way to start the season. The Maroon will also face Flint Hill, Maret, Potomac School and Sidwell, four very good opponents from MAC.
