5A Sonoran Stat Projections
The season is right around the corner, so that means it is prediction time! We’ll be looking over 5A Sonoran and predicting the leaders in scoring, rebounding, and assists (plus some superlatives).
Player of the Year: Julian Molina (Mountain View Marana 2019)
With Drew Cotton graduating and moving onto play at Utah Valley, Molina is the main focus of the team. Last year, Molina was the main scorer for the team but this season he will have to take on a bigger role. I think Molina has the skills and determination to step up and lead this team to a great season.
Most Points: Julian Molina (Mountain View Marana 2019)
While also winning player of the year, I think Molina scores the most points within the season. Last year, he averaged 18.2 points per game. That’s already an impressive number but I think he will improve upon it since the ball will be in his hands more.
Most Rebounds: Eli Williams (Desert View 2019)
Last season, Williams averages 9.3 rebounds per game. That is an incredibly hard thing to do over a full season. Very impressive stat line that he will probably improve on. I think he breaks into double digits this year and averages 10-12 rebounds per game.
Most Assists: Khalid Whitaker (Flowing Wells 2020)
It is no secret that Khalid Whitaker is the focal point of Flowing Wells. He is their best player and will have the ball in his hands a ton this season. Last season, he averaged 15.9 ppg, 5.1 apg, and 5.3 rpg. That’s a pretty solid stat line all around but I think he looks to improve his assists numbers to around 7 a game.
Breakout Player of the Year: Khalid Whitaker (Flowing Wells 2020)
I also think Whitaker will go on to have a big enough season that he will receive some heavy college interest. This past summer he generated some solid interest from schools but no offers yet. I think his scoring and assists improve to around 17 ppg and 7 apg.
