5A Northwest Stat Projections
The season is right around the corner, so that means it is prediction time! We’ll be looking over 5A Northwest and predicting the leaders in scoring, rebounding, and assists (plus some superlatives).
Player of the Year: Emmanuel Taban (Apollo 2019)
Taban is simply the best player in the region and one of the best players in the entire state. I think he will go on to win Player of the Year not only for this region but for the entirety of 5A. I believe Taban will lead Apollo to a state title run.
Most Points: Dominic Gonzalez (Ironwood 2020)
Dominic Gonzalez is just too skilled offensively to not score the most points this season. He can score the ball at all three levels of the game and is by far the leader of this young Ironwood team. I think Gonzalez has the ability to score near 17-20 points per game.
Most Assists: Bailon Black (Ironwood 2021)
Ironwood has a ton of shooters this year, Bailon included. As the point guard, I think Bailon has the most opportunities available to him to record the most assists this season. In Ironwood’s projected starting line up, there are 4 legit knock down shooters. That is every point guards dream.
Most Rebounds: Carson Basham (Sunnyslope 2021)
Carson is 6’10. Even if he was not skilled and was very new to the game of basketball, that height would put him in contention for most rebounds. Luckily for Sunnyslope, Basham is very skilled and is 6’10. He should easily record the most rebounds for this season.
Top Scoring Guard: Paris Woods (Apollo 2021)
While Gonzalez should be the top scorer for the year, I think Woods will be the top scoring guard in the region. Gonzalez will play the 3 spot this year so I am considering him as a wing. Paris is super talented and attacks the basket with so much aggression and force. I really like his game and think he will put up some solid scoring numbers this year.
Smartest Guard: Zach Paloma (Sunnyslope 2019)
I absolutely love Paloma’s game. He is everything I would want in a point guard. He runs whatever offense is in place, defenders super well, makes great decisions, and does not turn the ball over. Absolutely love his game, he has the pass first point guard mentality while also being strong enough to get to the basket and shooting ability to knock down a three.
