3A Teams that You’ll Want To Watch This Year
As we get into the swing of previews, we will track each class with teams that we are interested in. Up next in our list of superlatives are the 3A teams that you’ll want to watch this year. Next, we will dive into the 2A teams that you’ll want to watch this year.
Culver Academy
Culver is the easy choice for 3A teams that you need to watch. They return all contributors from a year ago, a year that they won the state championship. Trey Galloway is one of the best players in the 2020 class and Nick Hittle is a very solid big man down inside. Ethan Brittain-Watts is a guard that committed to Boston University over the fall and Deontae Craig is a forward who has multiple high major football offers. This is a team that can beat you in many ways and they should be high on your list to watch this year.
New Castle
Anytime you return two D1 commits you are going to be a team that people key in on. New Castle has two in-state commits as Mason Gillis has committed to Purdue and Luke Bambalough to Ball State. This is going to be a team that is very entertaining because they have so much star power. It also doesn’t hurt to take a trip to the high school basketball Mecca in the world, New castle Fieldhouse. New Castle will be right in there with the top teams in 3A this year and could be the last year that they have to make some big noise.
Marion
You’ll want to travel up to Marion if you’re a fan of points. Marion is a team that will be able to put up 80 points or more on really anyone in the state. Jalen Blackmon and J.K. Thomas are two of the most potent scoring guards in the state and neither of them are seniors. They are going to run and shoot as many times as they want. They are a team that tries to get up as many shots as possible and to run up and down the court as many times as they can. Go watch Marion, you will see a ton of points.
Greensburg
Greensburg is such a talented team and they are going to be really, really good this year. Led by 6’7 Andrew Welage, they have a host of guys that can get the job done. Senior Drew Comer is a guy who is going to be solid as usual and sophomore Lane Sparks really improved over the summer. They have a three headed monster scoring wise and they could put up points with really pretty much anyone in the state. Greensburg is going to be a school that could surprise some people.
South Bend St. Joseph’s
SB St. Joseph’s did lose quite a few players off of their roster from last year’s team, but they return two key players who have gotten a ton better. JR Konieczny and Adam O’Dell were two 6’6 freshman and this year will play a huge role in the success of the team. Konieczny has already received a D1 offer and will probably add more throughout the year. This is going to be a dark horse team from the north but there will be growing pains. A core group of young players makes this group one to watch.
