2A Teams That You’ll Want To Watch This Year
As we get into the swing of previews, we will track each class with teams that we are interested in. Up next in our list of superlatives are the 2A teams that you’ll want to watch this year. Next, we will dive into the 1A teams that you’ll want to watch this year.
Indianapolis Howe
Howe doesn’t have the most talent in the class, but they certainly might play in the most entertaining way. Howe loses it’s top talent from a year ago but they do return some good players. They will look to run and score points at a breakneck pace. They love to press and create easy baskets off of turnovers. They are very well coached and while their record won’t be indicative of their skills since they play so many bigger schools. They scored a ton last year and look to do the same this year.
Covington
Covington has always been a team that is very fundamentally sound. They had a great year last year and despite losing their leading scorer and a few key pieces to the puzzle, they should be able to perform close to the same level that they did last year. Covington is a team that is made up of shooters and they have a few guards that are effectively able to get the ball to them. If you want to see solid small-school basketball, Covington is a team that you should watch.
Frankton
Frankton is one of the favorites to win the state title in 2A. They are full of really solid pieces and have the talent to win it all this year in a year that 2A is wide open. Frankton has the ability to put up a lot of points this year as the schools around them have lost quite a bit of talent. They are a team that is going to play really solid defense and then wait for their shot on the offensive end. Once they get to regional it gets a little tougher, but they have as much talent as anyone.
Southwestern (Hanover)
Southwestern is a team that a lot of people haven’t heard of in southern Indiana. They are going to be a very fun team to watch as they are all capable shooters. They have added a few tough schools to their schedule to help out their strength of schedule but for the most part they’ll be beating up on lesser teams. Southwestern’s Tyler Kramer has a great chance to lead the state in scoring as he can fill it up in many different ways. It’s a trek from central Indiana but they’ll be a team that you’ll want to view.
Monrovia
Monrovia is a team that is going to be very senior heavy. With nine juniors on the roster last year and only one sophomore and one freshman, Monrovia is looking for this to be the year that they capture a sectional title because the road ahead will be a little rough. Senior Max Newman is going to look to lead the team as a do-it-all forward who has committed to Bethel. Junior Josh Smith is a dynamic scorer and will be able to put up a ton of points too. Lots of potential for them since they are so experienced.
