There are several high caliber shooters and athletes in the group and several of them should land at the D2 or D1 level by the time they graduate in 2020. Let’s breakdown the top shooting and combo guards in Kentucky’s Junior class.
- Marcellus Vail, Collins – Vail is one of the better pure scorers in the class. Whether shooting from distance or attacking the rim, Vail knows how to get a bucket. Marcellus recently got his first offer from D2 Kentucky State and has interest from several D1 colleges. He should see a much bigger role in his Junior season and will have plenty of opportunity to earn more college offers as the season goes along.
- Marques Warrick, Henry Clay – Marques has big time potential and is a no doubt D1 prospect. The lone draw back for Warrick right now is a lack of strength which hurts him from finishing through contact. Marques’ length helps him to look bigger than what he is right now and and gives him the ability to shoot a gap on defense and get a steal. Several college coaches have made their way to the gym at Henry Clay this season. Look for Warrick to be one of the next Juniors to get their first offers.
- Matt Cromer, South Laurel – Matt continues his meteoric rise up the rankings as he started in the 30s and has now cracked the top ten. Cromer does everything possible to contribute to his team. He scores, rebounds, handles the ball and makes smart defensive reads. Cromer won’t blow you away in the layup line but don’t sleep on him as a high D2 or low D1 prospect.
- Luke Morrison, South Oldham – Perhaps one of the better sleepers in the class, Luke is a 6’5 shooter who is looking for a big Junior season now that he’s the main scorer at South Oldham. Morrison missed a large chunk of his AAU season with a broken nose but bounced back in July with a couple of good performances. Look for Luke to break out this season if he can become more aggressive with the ball in his hands.
- Reese Smith, Boyle County – Reese is one of the best athletes in the state regardless of class. He’s a three sport star with basketball, track and football. Already holding multiple high major offers in football, his path is going to be on the gridiron but he may also be the best player in the 12th region in basketball. Look for Smith to average over 20 points per game while leading a very young Boyle team this year.
