It is a strong group of floor generals who will all play college basketball this time next year. Here’s a breakdown of the top point guards in the 2019 class.
- David Johnson, Trinity – Some see David as a combo guard or a two but I really think his future at Louisville is going to be playing the point guard position. David is at his best with the ball in his hands and running a team. Yes he can score the ball but Chris Mack loves big point guards like Quentin Goodin and David fits that mold.
- Jordan Graham, George Rogers Clark – Graham is a pass first point with outstanding size for the position. Still improving as an outside shooter, Jordan is at his best attacking the rim and specializes with his pull up jumper. Graham holds five scholarship offers currently and should earn more with a strong Senior year for the Cards. GRC runs a very structured offense but Jordan is often best when being able to push the ball in the open floor.
- Korbin Spencer, Elliott County – Korbin returned to the Lions after a year away and slides back into being one of the better point guards in the state. Korbin is much more of a scoring guard than Johnson and Graham. Spencer is better at creating his own offense and driving and kicking to shooters than anything. Look for a monster year from the returning hero of Elliott County.
- Keaston Brown, Henry Clay – Keaston is a really good pass first point for a good Henry Clay squad. The biggest thing for Keaston the last couple of years has been staying healthy. The poor kids has suffered from multiple ankle injuries in addition to a shoulder surgery when he was a sophomore. Brown earned a couple of D2 offers this summer and could find his way to the D1 level if he has the type of Senior season that he is capable of.
- Rodriguez Thomas, Paducah Tilghman – Thomas’ ultimate position in college may be playing off the ball as a shooting guard because he shoots the ball so well. At the high school level, Thomas is a facilitator that can create for himself or others. You can’t give him room to shoot as he’s about 50% from three in his career. Look for Thomas to have Tilghman in the mix to win the first region all season long.
Other Top Point Guards:
- Corey “Boogie” Girton – North Bullitt
- Carter Baughman – Mercer County
- Donnie Miller – Newport
- Adam Sizemore – North Laurel
- Diablo Stewart – Scott County
