Continue ReadingThe 2019 class in Kentucky is a special one. There is so much talent in the top of this class but one thing that gets overlooked is the depth in the class as a whole. There are solid college prospects all over the state. Here’s a look at some of the biggest risers in our latest update.
- Korbin Spencer, Elliott County (unranked–>18) – Korbin returns to Kentucky after spending a year at the Hargrave Military Academy. When he left, he was a top 10-12 prospect but some others in the class have passed him as a prospect during his time away. Korbin will be among the top scorers in the state this season and is likely to be the MVP in the 16th region.
- Reid Jolly, Campbell County (31–>19) – Jolly moves up the rankings after a really good AAU season and adding his first pair of college offers recently. Reid is arguably the most valuable player (not named Dontaie Allen) in the 10th region as he was the leading scorer and rebounder for the regional champions last season and should do that and more this season as his role will continue to increase this season.
- Donnie Miller, Newport (50–>35) – Donnie is one of the best players in the state that no one ever talks about. Miller is a capable scorer from all 3 levels and knows how to run a team from the point guard spot. Newport has a puncher’s chance of winning the 9th region this season and the only way that happens is if Miller takes his game to the next level.
- Jonathon Tillman, Frankfort (unranked–>45) – An oversight on our part in previous rankings, Tillman comes off a Junior season where he averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds and is ranked almost everywhere as a top player in the 11th region this season. Frankfort was not very good last season and was extremely hard to watch but a coaching change could help this season. Tillman is a good candidate for a NAIA or Juco school to take and develop.
- Devaunte Robinson, Ashland Blazer (Unranked–>51) – Another player who should have been ranked before now, Devaunte is a really solid player in the 16th region. As a college prospect, Robinson is a tweener forward who doesn’t shoot the ball well but has a strong body and knows how to use it. Look for Ashland to rely on the 6’4 forward to carry them back to a regional championship game this year.
- Pete Knochelmann, Covington Holy Cross (75–>52) – Pete is a prospect relatively new to our radar but rising up the rankings after a solid summer of AAU and some Ivy League interest as a high academic prospect. The pressure is going to be on Knochelmann this season to produce at a high level for new coach Brandon Grammer and try to make a push at a regional title.
- Troy Coomer, Gallatin County (Unranked–>58) – Coomer may be the best shooter in the state from deep. Troy made over 50% of his attempts as a Junior and will look to repeat that performance as a Senior. D2 and NAIA schools should be all over Coomer if they need a shooter.
