Top 250: Scott’s Morning Standouts
The PrepHoopsIllinois Top 250 Camp had the best field of talent the camp has ever seen. We will have tons of coverage and in-depth scouting over the next week. With a loaded field of prospects it is hard to narrow it down to just a few standouts. Here are Scott’s Morning Session Standouts from Saturday!
SG Lance Jones (Evanston – 2019)
Jones is a recent commitment to Southern Illinois and the top 20 prospect put on a show at PrepHoops Top 250! The powerful combo guard scored in a variety of ways, but was most effective using his crisp ball handling and power to beat his man off the bounce and finish at the hoop. Consistently won in one on one situations living at the rim. Wasn’t selfish either as he was willing to get others involved with sound passes that led to assists. Also was a presence defensively getting steals.
SG Mohammed Alausa (Chicago U-High – 2019)
Alausa flew a bit under the radar throughout the circuit, but made a huge impact at the PrepHoops Top 250 during the morning session. He is a strongly built shooting guard with above average athleticism. The Chicago U-High product displayed his ability to get buckets in bunches with aggressive takes to the hoop where he got to the basket and finished with a variety of difficult layups. Can hit a mid-range jumper on occasion.
PG Jaheim Holden (Evanston – 2019)
Holden was another Evanston player that impressed. The tiny lefty guard can really go and he showed it again. Quick and shifty with the ball allows him to push in transition with his speed. Crisp passer that finds guys in the open floor as well as in the drive and kick game. Scored several times on acrobatic and-1s. Connected on some deep threes too. Looks like the shot has continued to improve its consistency. Despite his size he is a very pesky on ball defender at the point of attack.
SF Jabari Chiphe (Walter Payon – 2020)
This Walter Payton Prep 2020 wing continues to fly under the radar of college coaches. We expect him to have a huge junior campaign. At the PrepHoops Top 250 he displayed the ability to play both on and off the ball. Super athletic and has good strength. Pop off the bounce which was shown on a sweet baseline take for an up and under. Excels scoring in transition. Improved as a passer.
PF Seryee Lewis (Kenwood – 2020)
Lewis is the top big man in the 2020 class and throughout the day he was matched up with some of the other D1 post players. He shined every game we saw him play. What stands out about Lewis is his elite athleticism at the power forward spot. He is so bouncy and that was shown on both ends off the floor. Offensively he had several monster dunks, athletic takes from the mid-post in, and an array of hook shots. His skill level on the block continues to improve. Excellent rebounder that snatches them out of the air and has an explosive second jump. Shot blocking presence as well.
C Brandon Lieb (Deerfield – 2020)
Lieb had home field advantage as he was playing in his hometown at Joy of the Game. The 6’11” post was matched up with another near seven footer and he displayed what he can do on the defensive end. Was very impressed with his shot blocking swatting his fellow big man multiple times in a half. Long and wiry big man that will definitely need to add strength going forward. Offensively he runs the floor with fluidity and displays a soft touch around the rim with skilled moves on the block.
SF Christian Shumate (Plainfield East – 2019)
Shumate is a freak show athlete! The 6’5” small forward has unreal bounce. He was an absolute force blocking shots. In one game alone he had seven swats! They came in a variety of ways with LeBron come from behind blocks, weakside blocks, and swatting perimeter jumpers. Offensively he played above the rim with big dunks and slashes to the hoop. Jumper needs to continue to improve to max out his ability.
SF Greg Outlaw (Orr – 2019)
The Orr 2019 small forward that is a superior athlete. He loves attacking off the bounce and playing above the rim in transition. That was exactly what he did at the camp over and over again. The biggest thing with Outlaw is how high of a motor he plays with!
PF Bennett Kwiecinski (Loyola – 2020)
This Loyola 6’8” power forward had the best day that we have seen out of him in his young career. He is a skilled face up four man that has struggled some with putting it all together. That wasn’t the case on Saturday when he went head to head with his brother. Ran the floor. Hit threes. Was effective getting on the offensive glass for put backs. Look forward to seeing his progression as a junior.
C Devon House (Sterling Newman – 2020)
The state’s top center had quite a day. He stands at 6’8” with a wide body. House has continued to get in better shape and is actually much more mobile than he looks. Handled it some on the perimeter and hit a couple threes. House is a very skilled low post scorer with a soft touch around the hoop and has outstanding footwork on the block. Beast area rebounder.
SF Jeremiah Hernandez (St. Viator – 2019)
The state’s #11 prospect came to the camp straight from his official visit to Drake and as always produced. The St. Viator wing has an advanced floor game where he handles it, is an underrated passer, and can score at will. Hernandez took it to the hole multiple times including some posterizing dunks. Displayed his skilled pull up jump shot. Also showed his underrated passing feel for the game.
SF Tujautae Williams (Orr – 2019)
Another one of the top senior prospects in the house was Williams. The Orr wing has seen his stock rise in recent months with a strong showing on the travel team circuit. He is a long and lanky wing with plus athleticism. He can really score the basketball. Long strides and plays above the rim with monster slams. Was one of the top athletes all day long. At times he can be a little too flashy which leads to turnovers. Williams will be the go to player for Orr this season and could have a HUGE year!
