Top 250 Preview
The first event for PrepHoops in Georgia is shaping to be a great one with our Top 250 Camp coming to LakePoint Sporting Community on September 22nd. The 2019 group of attendees is especially loaded with high level prospects like Eric Coleman, Kamar Robertson, Mitch Ganote, Mekhail Bethea, Quincy Olivari, Terrell Burden, Malik Battle, Ahmir Langlais and Marcus Foster all attending. But, this event also has some impressive young guys and lots of under the radar players who will be looking to make a statement at camp. Here’s more on who will be at the Top 250 in just over 2 weeks.
To go along with Ganote, the GA Elite Ballers have a nice group of players attending camp. Guards D’Antaye Page and Kalik Brooks, as well as forward Jaylen Bates will be coming. This squad got a lot of attention in July and their guys will be looking to carry momentum through the fall and into the winter.
The same goes for the Atlanta Timberwolves, one of the most entertaining teams I watched all summer. 2019s Austin Sloan and Jordan Krueger are locked in and so are 2020s Jack Kostel, Colin Granger, and Eli Burruss. Kostel and Granger are already receiving D1 interest but the Timberwolve team was a popular watch for D2 and D3 schools throughout July. Numerous coaches will be checking in on their guys at camp.
A rising prospect who I really enjoyed watching in July, Brian Knight, will be at the Top 250 as well. He is getting lots of D2 interest and I have heard a few D1s are starting to inquire. Knight’s God’s Property had a very successful July with various players receiving offers and getting new schools to track them. His GP teammates Mayo Akinsunmi and Payton Aiken will also be in attendance. Both had some good moments on the travel circuit and I expect them to have nice showings at camp.
SEBA’s FCI Warriors already have 4 guys signed up in Orry Owens, Ryan Billig, Matthew Lane, and Tay Howard. FCI had an undersized team, but they impressed a lot of people with their toughness and level of effort. They had lots of versatile players who had no issue adapting to different roles and doing the dirty work. Their group is always a joy to watch.
Some other 2019 sleepers coming to camp who I’m looking forward to watching include Cam Armstrong, DJ Patrick, CJ Riley, Donaven Hairston, Eric Jones, Chase Toomer, Spencer Davidson, Brandon Green, and Brent Kelly. I’ve seen good things from all them at different points throughout the spring and summer; they should be ready for strong senior seasons.
Although there are tons of good 2019 players coming, you should not ignore the talent from other classes that will be in attendance. I already mentioned Kostel, Granger, and Burruss from the Timberwolves, who are all solid. Matt Davis, Ben Raspberry, Myson Lowe, and Saigon Kitt will be guys to track at camp and throughout 2018-19. All 4 are on the rise and had productive summers on the travel circuit. A few prospects I want to get a closer look at would include Dajon Dancil, Josh Spencer, Maclean Hoekwater, and Cole Perusek. They have shown flashes of potential and it will be interesting to see how they continue to develop. I have heard some good things about Riverwood teammates Jermyle Jones and Nate Henderson, Alex Elliot (Mount Paran), Ra’Sean Frederick (Therrell), and Josh Boeye (Pinecrest) also. The Top 250 will be a perfect platform for them to show what they’re made of.
There aren’t as many players from 2021 and 2022 registered yet, but the ones who have signed up are high quality prospects. Sutton Smith, Ian Schieffelin, and Logan Turner are all in our Top 30 in Georgia for 2021. They are 3 guys who were very impressive this summer and have bright futures. I expect them to be fine going against older guys. Justin Bogard, a teammate of Schieffelin’s, is also coming. He is Joe Johnson’s nephew and looked good when I first saw him at team camp with Grayson in June. Two other 2021 prospects I’ll make sure to keep my eye on are Andrew McConell and Jermaine Smoak.
We have a great slate of attendees already, but there is still time to lock in your spot and get the chance to make a name for yourself before the season.
