Top 250: Parham’s View from Court 2
As a coach of this past weekend’s PrepHoops Top 250 Camp I had a front row seat to evaluate players on my court throughout the day. There were a variety of prospects at Joy of The Game on Saturday. Some who were committed, some with offers, but most just trying to get on the radar to be recruited.
Here are some of the players who played well on court 2 of the event.
Darius Buford (Bolingbrook – 2020)
Buford played with a lot of tenacity during his time on the court. He put heavy pressure on any opposing guard often forcing them to change direction and causing a couple of turnovers in the process. Offensively Darius has great speed when pushing the ball and is very explosive when driving to the rim. His shot isn’t bad at all he shows good form but could make better choices in the half court when deciding to shoot. His motor will be his best asset that colleges will notice the most and if he continues add to his game his stock will continue to rise.
Daulton Burgner (Belleville Althoff – 2020)
Mr. Burgner is very poised for a junior. His play on Saturday was more so of a skilled NBA veteran. He rebounded the ball well around the basket and made sound decisions when hounded by defenders. Daulton did a great job adjusting to who his matchup was on the court. When guys switched he made immediate changes to what needed to happen on offense and defense. He excelled in the midrange making several shots from 15 feet and out. Burgner is a for sure scholarship athlete for college coaches. Small colleges monitor him!
Joey Tianen (Notre Dame College Prep – 2020)
Tianen was an absolute joy to watch while on the court. He made really exciting play after play. His knack for getting in the lane and scoring on bigger defenders with his scoop lay-ups were a staple anytime he looked to score off drives. Joey played very relaxed while on the court. He looked really good in the open court setting where he can pass and score almost anytime he had the ball in his hands. Joey also did really well off the ball as he showed knowledge of good spacing and the ability to make open shots in transition. This will be a very fun team to watch in Niles this winter if Tianen is on the court.
Cameron Cleveland (Leo – 2022)
The younger brother of Leo star senior guard Fred Cleveland had a solid High School debut event for PrepHoops. Like his brother, Cam did a good job at making shot from long range. He made several shots from way beyond the 3 point arc. During his time as the point guard he made solid choices on his passes. Must get tougher when defenders try to get up tight on him but he’s just a freshman and I’m sure we will see steady growth in his game
Tyler Showers
Showers impressed me the most playing super hard during his last game. His energy on both ends after playing three consecutive games prior was refreshing to see. He is naturally a wing, but plays in the paint if needed. Tyler didn’t have a particular skill set that set him apart from the other players. He was able to do a little bit of everything. Solid handle in the open court and had a knack for finishing around the basket. Showers is a player to monitor who has pretty good upside.
