Top 250 Expo: Underrated guards who raised their profile (2019)
Here is a look at several guards in the 2019 class who raised their profile at the Prep Hoops Kansas Top 250 Expo held on Sunday at Blue Valley West.
17 — Nathan Burger, 6’3, G, 2019, Blue Valley Northwest
Burger has good size at 6’3 for a guard and does a terrific job competing at both ends of the floor. He can shoot the ball a little from the outside, passes it well and competed on the defensive end of the floor.
25-Mason Colangelo, 6’3, G, 2019, Aquinas (Kan.)
Colangelo is a long guard who brings good size and a lot of energy to the floor. He’s a physical defender and someone who will fight for position in the paint. He runs the floor well and can finish and pass out with heavy contact. Brings a lot of positivity to the floor. He plays hard on both sides of the floor and takes his job seriously.
91-Noah Sowers, 6’1, G, 2019, Dodge City (Kan.)
Sowers is a guard who likes to play everything at one speed: as fast as he can. He is good at running lanes and will find a way to contribute wherever he can. He’s one of the first players on defense and is looking to the basket on the other end. A solid team player that’s ready to make a play and is looking for a steal. Sowers can also handle the ball and score if needed. A very competitive player.
95-Taegan Sumner, 6’1, G, 2019, Rossville (Kan.)
Sumner is athletic and patient. A thin player who can skip his way to the basket and make buckets. He passes well and is extremely accurate from his sweet spots. He lets the game come to him. He doesn’t force things to happen when nothing is there. He is calm with the ball and makes plays on both sides of the ball that are thoughtful and good for the team.
109 — Amari Williams, 6’0, G, 2019, Shawnee Mission North (Kan.)
Williams is tough off the dribble and showed the ability to attack the basket and finish tough chances in traffic. A combo guard who can play on the ball or off, Williams also made several nice cuts away from the ball throughout the day to free himself up for easy chances. He has an emerging outside shot that he uses to free himself up a little.
