Top 250 Expo: Top PGs who raised their profile (2019)
Here is a look at several of the top point guards in the 2019 class who raised their profile at the Prep Hoops Kansas Top 250 Expo held on Sunday at Blue Valley West.
12-Kobe Bonner, 5’10, PG, 2019, Seaman (Kan.)
A strong player who is always looking for a steal and transition play. Bonner has a soft shot and can be seen showing off underneath the basket or behind the line. He has a smooth shot with a clean release. He takes his time when he has the ball and tries to make the best decision he can. He moves well off the ball and comes off screens well in search of an open look.
33-Nolan Ford, 6’1, G, 2019, Basehor-Linwood (Kan.)
Also a football standout, Ford showed throughout the camp he is a fine slasher who can find buckets as he cuts to the basket. He has good size and is a solid ball handler. It all comes easy when he’s in the zone. He can pick an opposing player a part. He can jump well and shoot mid-way through the air off the glass. Ford has a high release, but he also jumps well when he shoots. A deadly combination at times. Ford is a player to keep your eyes on.
77 — Garrison Pope, 6’1, G, 2019, McLouth (Kan.)
Pope showed off a strong, all-around game throughout Sunday’s event at Blue Valley West. He has a long rangy frame that allows him to play bigger than his listed height, and brings a high basketball IQ to the floor. He can shoot from the outside and is a crafty ball handler who picks his spots well.
84-Kobe Sifford, 6’2, G, 2019, Basehor-Linwood (Kan.)
Another guard who can play tight defense and fight his way to the basket. He’s very energetic on the floor. Sifford doesn’t do too much with the ball and he plays a simple game at a high level. He’s somewhat conservative with the ball, but he’s the kind of player who could have a trick up his sleeve that takes the entire defense by surprise.
98 — Keyon Thomas, 5’11, PG, 2019, Bonner Springs (Kan.)
Might have been one of the camp MVPs. He had a big performance in the game that we watched, putting 19 points in the first half on the board in the first half of a blowout win. He showed off the ability to consistently knock down outside shots throughout the camp at Blue Valley West, as well as the type of leadership and moxie that he has become known for. Thomas has elite speed and quickness and is tough for defenders to contain on the perimeter.
