Top 250 Camp: 2020 Evals Pt 3
The PrepHoopsIllinois Top 250 Camp was this past weekend in Deerfield, Illinois. It was the best group of prospect in recent memory at all ages! Here is Part 3 of our evaluations of the Class of 2020!
SF Daulton Burgner (Belleville Althoff)
Burgner is a 2020 small forward from Belleville Althoff. He is a player we have been consistently talking about since we saw him in the spring with the Illinois Bears. Several people came up to me asking about him during the camp. Positional size at 6’5” with a high skill level and can really shoot it from deep. Can also shot fake and go by man on occasion. Also aware as a passer. Tough kid.
PG Kyrell Daniel (Plainfield East)
Daniel is a 5’10” point guard from Plainfield East High School that proved to be a sound passer throughout the camp making smart decisions with the ball. Lefty is a solid ball handler.
C Devon House (Sterling Newman)
The state’s top center had quite a day. He stands at 6’8” with a wide body. House has continued to get in better shape and is actually much more mobile than he looks. Handled it some on the perimeter and hit a couple threes. House is a very skilled low post scorer with a soft touch around the hoop and has outstanding footwork on the block. Beast area rebounder.
G Darius Buford (Bolingbrook)
Buford will be a name that emerges this season as a key perimeter threat for Bolingbrook. He already has a D1 offer in hand after recently picking up one from Drake. This combo guard has long arms which makes up for his lack of ideal height. Plus athlete that is very quick twitched. Got to the rim off the bounce on multiple occasions as well as crashing the glass for offensive rebound put backs.
SG Uchenna Egekeze (Huntley)
Egekeze is an angular two guard that is so versatile and great at stuffing the stat sheet. Sometimes those things are hard to do in a camp setting and can go unnoticed, but we really like what this young wing brings to the table. Can defend multiple positions. Rebounds great for his position. Offensively his game is all about contributing a little bit all around.
PG Cristian Young (Joliet Academy)
Young stands at 5’10” from Joliet Catholic Academy. He is a bit small, but is a solid ball handler and can hit an occasional three.
SF Tyler Andrews (Cedar Rapids Kennedy, IA)
Andrews was one of the few out of state prospects in attendance. He held his own against the Illinois boys. The Iowa product who currently ranks #21 in the PrepHoops Iowa Rankings is a long and lanky forward with projectability. He is bouncy and has upside especially in transition. Could finishes better in the paint.
SG Kade Kimberlin (Oak Creek)
This 6’5” wing has size for position, but definitely will need to get stronger as time goes on. Looked a bit lost at times.
SG KaLon Hale (Neuqua Valley)
Hale stands at 6’2” and we came away very impressed with how he competed on the defensive end of the floor. Also knocked down a three in the game we saw.
PG Conor Glennon (Brother Rice)
One of the best leaders in the state at 5’11”. This fiery floor general brought that to his team at Top 250. He is a vocal leader that others want to follow. Crisp passer that can also hit an open jumper.
C Shontrail Key (Kenwood)
Big bodied 6’7” post from Kenwood that is a quality area rebounder. He did just that getting the majority of his points on offensive rebound put backs.
SG Lashawn Johnson (East St. Louis)
Johnson is a prospect from the metro east that burst on our radar back in the spring. Watched him again in June and continued to see the progression at Top 250. Long and angular wing that gets to the hoop off the bounce and excels in the open floor with his big time athleticism. Should be a player that makes an impact for ESL this season.
SG Ryan Connolly (Grayslake North)
Connolly is a two guard that is slightly undersized at 6’1”. Plays hard and likes to attack the basket with reckless abandon.
SG Dan Florey (St. Ignatius)
Skilled shooting guard at 6’3” that is best as a sniper from deep. When he knocks down his first shot he can get rolling. Clean looking shot that has a chance to be among the better shooters in his class. Would like to see him add more to his game as a passer, slasher, and play with a higher activity level. Foot speed defensively could also improve. Florey will be the go to player this season for St. Ignatius and we could see him putting up big scoring numbers as a junior!
