Top 250 Camp: 2020 Evals Pt 2
The PrepHoopsIllinois Top 250 Camp was this past weekend in Deerfield, Illinois. It was the best group of prospect in recent memory at all ages! Here is Part 2 of our evaluations of the Class of 2020!
PG Connor Dillon (Peoria Notre Dame)
Dillon is one of the better combo guards from central Illinois in 2020. The lefty has a good feel for the game and sneaky bounce. He is a plus shooter from three with a clean looking stroke that he can hit from both three and mid-range stopping and popping. Sound passer with crisp dishes.
F Aaron Tims (Hinsdale South)
Tims is an intriguing combo forward that we didn’t see much of during the travel team circuit, but have always liked his upside. Long and angular lefty with a lot of bounce. Fluid running the floor. Excels in transition. Can handle it in the open floor. Threat as a catch and shoot guy.
C Yves Nkomba (La Sallette Academy)
At 6’10” this big man is one of the biggest post prospects in the state. He is all arms and legs! The thing he is best at right now is blocking shots. Good timing and anticipation both coming from the weak side or straight up. Should be a good rebounder. Runs the floor with ease. Still pretty raw offensively.
SG Ryan Sroka (Huntley)
The shooting guard from Huntley is a tough wing that has a nose for the basketball. He can shoot it from deep and got out in transition for an and-1.
SF Chayton Heiser (Neuqua Valley)
Heiser is a 6’4″ small forward from Neuqua Valley High School that presents quality size. He moves well without the basketball. Skilled passer and solid screener. Rebounds well for a wing. Heiser does a nice job contesting shots defensively, but he needs to improve his foot speed and lateral quickness as he was beat off the bounce multiple times. Also his ball handling needs to improve.
C Brandon Lieb (Deerfield)
Lieb had home field advantage as he was playing in his hometown at Joy of the Game. The 6’11” post was matched up with another near seven footer and he displayed what he can do on the defensive end. Was very impressed with his shot blocking swatting his fellow big man multiple times in a half. Long and wiry big man that will definitely need to add strength going forward. Offensively he runs the floor with fluidity and displays a soft touch around the rim with skilled moves on the block.
PF Grant Coleman (Mahomet-Seymour)
Coleman is a 6’7” face up four man that has a nose for the basketball. Mobility allowed him to be effective in the pick and roll along with pick and pop game.
PG Michael Osborne (Proviso East)
Osborne is a lead guard that has a good feel for getting others involved. Pushes the tempo and can score it some too.
F Marcus Skeete (Waubonsie Valley)
Skeete is a 6’5″ combo forward from Waubonsie Valley. We liked what we saw out of him with HIT this spring and summer and that progression has continued. Big bodied forward that is nimble and skilled for his size. Passes it very well and rebounds at a nice clip. Versatility to play both inside and outside.
PF Ryan Issacson (Hinsdale Central)
Huge fans of this 2020 power forward. His stock soared in July and it continued at PrepHoops Top 250. Mobile 6’8” four man that can play both inside and outside. So skilled at his size. Showed that on one impressive shot fake, drive, and dish for an assist. Plus shooter off the catch from three. Even displayed some improvement as a rim protector. Sneaky athlete!
PG Reggie Strong (St. Joseph’s)
Strong is a long and angular point guard that lives in the lane. Thin and wiry frame allows him to slither through the defense for scores. Decent mid-range shooter as well. Potential defensively with his length and lateral quickness. One of the top point guards in the class.
SF Jason Bergstrom (Niles Notre Dame)
Broad shouldered 6’4” small forward that continues to grow on you every time out. Such a clean looking jump shot. Handles it pretty well on the perimeter for the small forward spot.
SG Jack Baldridge (Timothy Christian)
Baldridge is a rangy guard that had a few nice drives throughout the day. High IQ player that seemed to be in the right spot at the right time.
PF Sam Schultz (Oswego East)
Schultz is one of the top power forwards in the state of Illinois. The 6’8” post has broad shoulders, good build, and mobility for his position. Runs the floor extremely well and is a plus athlete at the four spot. Can handle the basketball from the mid-post in.
SG Tagen Pearson (Nazareth Academy)
Pearson is a thicker bodied two guard that isn’t super bouncy, but has a knack for making crafty scores in the paint. Did an outstanding job crashing the offensive glass for put backs. Most of the scores when we were watching came in the paint. High activity level.
SF Dominic Martinelli (Glenbrook South)
Martinelli is a left handed forward with quality size for position at 6’4”. He was so productive in both games I saw. Quick moves around the paint. Scores on runners. Very efficient with his touches at the camp.
PF Bennett Kwiecinski (Loyola)
This Loyola 6’8” power forward had the best day that we have seen out of him in his young career. He is a skilled face up four man that has struggled some with putting it all together. That wasn’t the case on Saturday when he went head to head with his brother. Ran the floor. Hit threes. Was effective getting on the offensive glass for put backs. Look forward to seeing his progression as a junior.
PF Jordan Kwiecinski (Loyola)
This face up four man had several quick scores on the interior. So long and with his mobility and is very projectable at the D1 level. Can handle it in space and has a lot of skill potential.
SG Kai Buckner (Plainfield East)
Thick 6’1” undersized two guard that rebounded it well and pushed it some in transition. Overall skill level and body need to improve to play at college level.
SG Jayson Kent (Oak Forest)
This 6’3” two guard is an interesting prospect. Long and lanky build with projectability. Scoring potential.
