Top 250 Camp: 2019 Evals Pt 2
The PrepHoopsIllinois Top 250 Camp was this past weekend in Deerfield, Illinois. It was the best group of prospect in recent memory at all ages! Here is Part 2 of our evaluations of the Class of 2019!
PG Nate Duckworth (Normal West)
Duckworth is a tough and gritty lead guard that has a competitive spirit off the charts. He is a plus plus shooter from beyond the arc both pulling up and off the catch. Has some stuff to his game off the bounce too being able to score on drives including a difficult and-1 when we were watching. Leader that makes others better around him!
SF Greg Outlaw (Orr)
The Orr 2019 small forward that is a superior athlete. He loves attacking off the bounce and playing above the rim in transition. That was exactly what he did at the camp over and over again. The biggest thing with Outlaw is how high of a motor he plays with!
SG Mattel McCurry (Larkin)
Compact bowling ball type athlete that attacks downhill and plays well in transition.
PG Christian Davis (St. Ignatius)
Davis is a 6’2” point guard that pushes the ball in the open floor and has size for position at the lead guard spot. He was effective getting several steals on the defensive end.
SG Blake Sartin (Lockport)
Sartin is an angular guard that has a clean looking shot. Several slick drive and kick passes and got in the lane well.
PG Terry Williams (Orr)
Williams is a 6’0” point guard that played sparingly last season for state champs Orr. He will be counted on more heavily this upcoming season. Plus shooter from deep that can drill spot up threes for days. That is what he hangs his hat on. Long term potential will be dependent on how much his point guard skills are shown this season.
SF Jeremiah Hernandez (St. Viator)
The state’s #11 prospect came to the camp straight from his official visit to Drake and as always produced. The St. Viator wing has an advanced floor game where he handles it, is an underrated passer, and can score at will. Hernandez took it to the hole multiple times including some posterizing dunks. Displayed his skilled pull up jump shot. Also showed his underrated passing feel for the game.
SF Tujautae Williams (Orr)
Another one of the top senior prospects in the house was Williams. The Orr wing has seen his stock rise in recent months with a strong showing on the travel team circuit. He is a long and lanky wing with plus athleticism. He can really score the basketball. Long strides and plays above the rim with monster slams. Was one of the top athletes all day long. At times he can be a little too flashy which leads to turnovers. Williams will be the go to player for Orr this season and could have a HUGE year!
F Lamarius Lillard (Momence)
Momence had a nice run last season and if they want to duplicate that again this 6’8” forward will have to play a major role in it. Long and lanky athlete that is a bit raw skill wise, but had several acrobatic finishes around the rim. With some coaching he could be a nice college player.
PF Dachaun Anderson (Leo)
Anderson is a 6’6” power forward that gobbles up rebounds for breakfast and lunch! Just an absolute beast on the glass. Powerful body and strength around the hoop allow him to physically overpower opponents and his quickness lets him beat them to the ball. Offensively he is starting to show he can put it on the deck a couple times from the mid-range.
SG Jamonte Benton (Joliet West)
Benton is a two guard that is getting some small college looks. Good frame and I like what he brings to the table defensively being able to defend multiple positions.
SG Ryan Verhulst (Hersey)
This 6’3” shooting guard was an excellent threat stretching the floor from three. Drained in three after three after three. Range on his shot with a clean release and effortless motion.
PG Jeremiah Washington (Bogan)
Washington is a compact 5’10” lead guard form Bogan that has speed to burn! His forte is getting to the rim and he did that throughout the camp when we watched. Getting looks at the D2 and low-major levels.
PG Demari Grant (Oswego East)
Grant is one of the fastest guards in the state and has a lethal pull up game. That was on display when we watched him from both mid-range and three. Spot and pop monster with his jumper!
PG Zach Vaia (Riverside Brookfield)
This point guard is a crisp passer and sound perimeter shooter. Tough as nails guard that will knock down open shots.
SG Michael Salter (Romeoville)
Salter was MIA on the circuit as we didn’t see him at all spring or summer. He told us that he decided not to play travel team ball and instead focus on training individually for his upcoming season. Looked impressive in spurts with athletic takes to the hoop and crisp ball handling. Connected on some runners in the lane and turned defense into offense several times.
C Vuk Djuric (Lane Tech)
Djuric is a high academic D3 prospect that is your classic junk yard dog four man at 6’6”. Competes on the glass and gets the most out of his ability.
PG TJ Ervin (Providence St. Mel)
Ervin is a tiny point guard listed at 5’6”, but he is a strong ball handler, leader, and passer as a floor general.
