Top 250: 2021 Recruiting Notebook
The PrepHoopsIllinois Top 250 Camp had a ton of college prospects in attendance. Here we catch up with a group of 2021 prospects to get the latest with their recruitments!
PG Kimahri Wilson (Carmel)
Wilson is one of the top point guards in the sophomore class. Quick guard that handles the ball well and scores it from the mid-range in. Wilson went to elite camps at DePaul and Purdue. Right now he has offers from UIC and Southern Illinois. What stands out about UIC? “It is in the heart of Chicago. I took a tour around and it is a nice campus.” How about SIU? “I went to their elite camp too. It was a nice arena. Nice coaching staff.”
SG Jaylin Gibson (Evanton)
Gibson is an explosive scoring wing that lived in the paint at PrepHoops Top 250. He said he has been in communication with Utah State. Loyola has been tracking him. Also UAB is interested early in the process.
PF Grant Newell (Whitney Young)
Newell is one of the most intriguing prospects in the class. Feathery jumper and projectable body. He said “Cincinnati and Northwestern came to open gyms and I was told they are interested in me as well as UIC.” Other schools showing interest include Tulane, Western Illinois, UW-Milwaukee, and Valpo. DePaul is his first offer!
SG Isaiah Barnes (OPRF)
Barnes elevated his stock with the Wolves in July and that continued into the spring with his performance at Top 250. Silky smooth scorer that has emerged as one of the best wings in the class at 6’6”. “I am going on a visit to Miami (OH) on September 29.” He holds offers from Chicago State, UIC, Detroit, and UW-Milwaukee. Detroit recently extended an offer. “I like the coaching staff. I heard they have some new guys too.” What about UW-Milwaukee? “Coach Baldwin I feel can take this team really far. I like their campus from the research I have done.” How about UIC? “They came and watched me at OPRF. I have been there too and like their coaches and facilities.”
SF Troy D’Amico (Niles Notre Dame)
This Niles Notre Dame 2021 small forward put on the most dominant performance we saw all day with an ultra-smooth scoring game. Miami (OH) and Loyola have both been showing early interested in the skilled forward.
SG Brandon Weston (Lake Forest Academy)
Weston is the state’s #2 sophomore prospect and he solidified that with his play at Top 250. The scoring guard has got letters from Louisville, NC State, and Iowa State. UMass has offered him. Expect his recruitment to skyrocket this season!
