The Breakdown Showcase: noteable ballers and how they faired. (Part 1 of 3)
Bay Area Hoops and Big County Preps hosted their 7th annual The Breakdown Showcase at Carrollwood Day School over this past weekend. This event is known to boost along a prospects recruitment due to the exposure that they recieve from national scout Reggie Burke of Bay Area Hoops, its founder. Along with us, Prep Hoops, scouting services such as Rip the Rim, Source Hoops, Baseline to Sideline, Hoop Exchange, and Florida Basketball Bulletin were in attendance to see what prospects would stand out and be promoted to higher institutions.
2019 Standouts:
Robert Hardy | 6’5 Guard | Superior Collegiate|
Hardy started the day off slow but quickly turned it up when game play began. He can flat out score the rock from almost any where. He’s a streaky shooter and gets inside at will. He had several highlight finishes through, over, and around defenders.
Braxton Bartlett | 6’4 Guard | Oldsmar Christian |
Is known as a one of the best shooters in the state. On Sunday, he showed he more than just a shooter. He handled the ball through pressure, got up into opposing players on defense, and showed off his athleticism by looking to catch bodies on breaks. Braxton worked hard throughtout the entire day. He showed in drills that he has a complete game.
Jalen Brown | 5’10 PG | Strawberry Crest
Mister hustle is what I called him. He takes no plays off! He’s a crafty high IQ point guard who controls the game on both ends. He handled the rock, made great decisions, and was very verbal with his teammates during team play. Defensively he exposed every guy he faced that was weak with his handles.
Gavin Antione | 6’6 Forward | Tampa Bay Tech |
Antione stood out on the defensive end. He was the ultimate eraser! Defensively, every thing coming to the rim, he challenged it and sent most of it flying in the opposite direction. Offensively he has some work to do but just as he was just as tenatious attacking the offensive glass….most of which he dunked while coming off the rim.
Michael Gavin | 6′ PG | Lake Mary Prep
Gavin was underestimated by most. He is very crafty with the ball and has some bounce. The point guard played hard and made the game look effortless because of how easy he was able to get buckets. He is very quick able able to stay in front of defenders and cause a little havoc for them.
Romaire Burke | 6’3 Guard | Strawberry Crest |
Burke looked poised, he didn’t seem to be bothered by anything an opposing defenders tried to do. He picked his spots and got to anyplace he wanted to off the dribble. His mid range was A-1, I didn’t see him miss many if any. He has to get stronger but his skill set is definitely next level and I look forward to seeing him throughout the upcoming season.
Andrew Danson | 6’8 Forward | Tampa Jesuit |
Danson is very athletic and has good size. He look great in pick and roll situations. He has a soft touch around the basket and finished through contact. He ran the floor consistently, showing he has a motor. Danson rebounded and defended well. His potential is limitless if he continues working hard.
