Recruiting Update: Taylor Pomeroy (2019 Franklin HS/Rose City Basketball)
Taylor Pomeroy is looking to increase his stock. The all-around 6-foot-2, 165-pound combo guard largely played under the radar at Franklin High School last year and got a little bit of exposure on the AAU circuit with Rose City Basketball. Now as he prepares for his senior season, Pomeroy has been playing in fall league and also recently took part in the PrepHoops Oregon Top 250 Expo where he ranked among the event’s top shooters.
“I thought the event was good as there was some of the top talent in the state,” Pomeroy said. “Personally, it started out a little rough for me finishing around the rim. But after that first game I started heating up and started to knock down some threes and started to play like I usually do, getting to the rim. Things started to turn back up pretty smoothly from there on out.”
Pomeroy has an all-around offensive game and is pretty good about not forcing the action and letting the game come to him. He picked up some college interest over the summer from the likes of Point Loma Nazarene, George Fox, and Pacific (Ore.). After AAU basketball ended he got a chance to take a trip down to San Diego to camp at Point Loma Nazarene.
“It was fun to compete against all these guys from outside the state of Oregon,” Pomeroy said. “It was good to see the campus and learn more about it. The campus is crazy nice – it’s on the ocean and it was a fun camp. Personally I thought I did pretty well. I’m aiming for a Division II (scholarship) and Point Loma is definitely one of them.”
Pomeroy isn’t looking past the chance at staying locally at the D-III level either. While a groin injury largely kept him out of action, he did recently attend camp at George Fox and took a look around the school too.
“I like the campus – that was the first time I’d ever been there,” Pomeroy said. “It was a lot different than what I expected. It was peaceful and I liked it more than I thought I would. And I really liked Maco (Hamilton), the head coach. He’s a really cool dude – their whole coaching staff is.”
Pomeroy noted that he isn’t in any rush to make any decisions. He’s excited about his final year of prep basketball at Franklin and is hopeful the Quakers can compete for a playoff spot out of the PIL. “I’m going to play my senior season out and then worry about it from there,” Pomeroy said. “I want to keep all my options open.”
