Recruiting Update: Oreon Courtney (2019 West Linn HS/Active PCH Leaders)
Oreon Courtney is ready for the step up in competition. After the athletic 6-foot-3, 185-pound swingman transferred to West Linn High School in the middle of spring semester, he’s been getting used his new surroundings and the step up in competition. Courtney just finished off the summer playing AAU ball and is itching to get on the court this winter.
This spring and summer, Courtney played with Active PCH and in July in tournaments in Anaheim and Las Vegas. “I played alright – I could have been a lot better,” Courtney said. “But since I’ve been back I’ve been in the gym working on my shot – hopefully it grows by the time the season start.”
The hope was Courtney would get some looks from college programs, but he notes that things have been pretty slow in that regard. Nevertheless, he’s hopeful a good season with West Linn will get things going. “I’m looking forward to try and get some looks from colleges as much as I can as my senior year goes,” Courtney said. “I’ve been working on my shot, my driving, working on defense – just trying to get better.”
Courtney definitely showed off his skills at the PrepHoops Top 250 Expo last Saturday, where was seen by observers as one of the top players there. He showed off his athletic ability by being active around the ball and on the boards, and threw down some athletic jams as always. But he also spotted up and hit some open threes – something he hopes to continue doing his senior year. He’s ready for the level of competition in the Three Rivers League.
“I’m definitely looking forward to it,” Courtney said. “I had a little preview during the summer playing with them a little bit and getting to know my players. I think we should be really good. My role should be rebounding and helping out with passing – it will be alright.”
Courtney will next showcase his game at the PT40 on September 29th at Franklin High School. He currently ranks as the #49 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
