Recruiting Roundup: Top 10 Uncommitted Prospects
The 2019 class is getting it moving here as official visits are underway and there are a ton of commitment coming in. As of today, 6 of the Top 10 in 2019 have already staked their claim for their college careers following the commitment of Armaan Franklin last night.
Today, we are looking into the recruitments of the remaining Top 10 players that are on the board.
Trayce Jackson-Davis
Rank: #1
Physical: 6’9 | PF
HS: Center Grove
Schools in the mix: Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, UCLA, Wake Forest
Latest: Right now, Jackson-Davis is on an official visit to Iowa this weekend. This is his 2nd official visit so far following up UCLA last week. He will take next week off before heading to Wake Forest, Indiana, and MSU in that order the following three weekends. He was slated to unofficially visit Purdue but rumor this week is that visit is dropped. He also was quoted as saying “I’m not a lock to Indiana” in an article by the Des Moines Register. However, that is the sentiment so far in his recruitment but don’t be surprised if the Michigan State visit, his last visit has some bearing on the outcome. For Trayce, you could see a commitment come any time and wouldn’t be shocking if he ended it before the season began.
Keion Brooks Jr.
Rank: #2
Physical: 6’8 | SF
HS: La Lumiere (IN)
Schools in the mix: Indiana, North Carolina, UCLA, Kentucky, Louisville, Texas, Georgetown, Iowa, Purdue, Michigan
Latest: Brooks announced his Top 10 late this summer and we list them above because as far as we can tell, this race is wide open. He just got done visiting UCLA last weekend and only has two more officials setup, Indiana (Sept. 28th) and North Carolina (Nov. 2nd). Realistically, Brooks will take all of his official visits to expect a few more schools to be added with Purdue, Kentucky, and Michigan State in the mix for those. Unlike Jackson-Davis, Brooks will see this thing out and likely won’t make a commitment before the Spring, similar to how Romeo Langford did this past year.
Brandon Newman
Rank: #4
Physical: 6’4 | SG
HS: Valparaiso (IN)
Schools in the mix: Indiana, Xavier, Ohio State, Purdue
Latest: The move back to Valpariaso for Brandon is a little indicative of what we have been hearing for some time. He’s likely to stay close to home and maybe the closer the better with his ailing mother. He just came off an official visit to Purdue last weekend and the commitment of Armaan Franklin to Indiana yesterday, both could have spurred something in his recruitment. He’s scheduled to be on campus today at Indiana for an official visit but rumors last night had him calling it off although nothing has been confirmed so far. With Ohio State and Xavier being located in Ohio, that could work against them a bit here but isn’t going to push them out of contention. He still has a visit setup for Ohio State (Sept. 21st) and could still go to Xavier soon but indications are this is going to be over sooner rather than later. Which begs the question, does the Franklin commitment speed things up?
Alex Hemenway
Rank: #4
Physical: 6’3 | SG
HS: Castle (IN)
Schools in the mix: Creighton, Clemson, Belmont, DePaul
Latest: The latest with Hemenway is that he has narrowed his choices down to four teams, Creighton, Clemson, Belmont, and DePaul per the Courier & Press. He’s looking at setting up visits but nothing official as of yet. Clemson is obviously the highest level of those programs and could be an interesting fit with Brad Brownell, Clemson’s head coach, who is from Indiana and has a connection to the family. Belmont could also be an interesting contender as they have always been strong in the state and have pulled in some prospects against some higher level programs. As of right now, things are kind of status quo as he deliberates about his upcoming visit schedule but look for a set of four visits and a commitment before the season begins.
