Recruiting Report: Xavier Johnson (2019)
Xavier Johnson, a 6-foot-2 class of 2019 point guard, is entering his fourth year as the starting point guard at Episcopal High School. Johnson has won a state championship and a conference championship at the high school level, and is a seasoned two-year veteran on the 17U Adidas Gauntlet Series. Considered one of the top available 2019 prospects in the DMV, several division one schools are actively recruiting the reliable floor general, and Prep Hoops got the scoop during a recent interview which took place at the DMVElite 80.
PH: Which schools are recruiting you the hardest right now?
XJ: “The hardest right now are Denver, Illinois State, George Mason, Boston University, and Northeastern.”
PH: What was your SAT score?
XJ: “I got an 1180.”
PH: Which schools have you taken official visits to so far?
XJ: “I took one to Illinois State last week, and I just got back from George Mason on Friday.”
PH: How did those visits go?
XJ: “The visits went well. Good opportunities are presenting themselves at both schools right now. It’s just about making the right decision.”
PH: Any other visits coming up?
XJ: “I don’t have any set up right now.”
PH: What’s the timetable looking like for you in terms of committing?
XJ: “I’m going to try to commit before the season. I want to focus on my high school career. Finishing that out strong, trying to get some championships.”
PH: Talk a little bit about your role this season. What will it be like?
XJ: “I’m the senior guard, so I have to lead the younger guys like I was led my freshman year. So that’s going to be a challenge, but I’m looking forward to it.”
PH: What are your short and long term goals?
XJ: “My short term goals: I want to get an IAC Championship again. Definitely want to get back to the state championship. Be First Team All-Met this year, All-IAC again, and First Team All-State. Long-term, I want to try and play professionally.”
