The recruiting process presented Thomas with several tough choices with lots of Low Major NCAA Division I programs after his talents. SIUE, Oral Roberts, UAB Blazers, Missouri State, and Kent State were the final five programs pursuing Thomas. Ultimately, upon visiting SIUE, Thomas fell in love.
“I fell in love with everything about the school,” said Thomas. “From the staff to the players it was all just the perfect fit.”
The coaching staff played a major role in Thomas and his family loving the school so much. The impression from Thomas was very clear they rolled out the red carpet doing everything they could to impress the youngster.
“Coach Harris and his staff were just very genuine with me,” said Thomas. “They have the same winning mindset as me and I look forward to playing for him soon.”
As his senior year is fast approaching Thomas was thrilled to get this decision out of the way.
“The recruiting process was fun and exciting, but making a decision was pretty tough,” said Thomas.
SIUE is getting a 5’10 Point Guard that can manage and lead a team. Thomas has proven throughout his high school career he can do a little bit of everything from the score, distribute, play tough defense, and make the hustle plays. He projects to have a great career at SIUE. Thomas credits his success on the court to a number of things.
“Learning about the game and becoming mentally stronger has helped me become the player I am today as well,” said Thomas “As all the hard work I’ve put in.”
Despite SIUE being a little ways from home, Thomas will have fellow Oklahoman, Anselm Uzuegbunem there for his freshman season. Uzuegbunem attended Harding Charter Prep opting to go JUCO at NOC Tonkawa and work his way up to the NCAA Division I level. It will be very exciting to see what Thomas can do throughout his college career.
