Scouting Report: JT Elder
The Class of 2021 is absolutely loaded with great talent from top to bottom. The future of Arizona basketball is in good hands going forward. One of the most talented prospects in the Class of 2021 is Jason “JT” Elder (Cienaga). The 6’6 wing was a huge part of Powerhouse Dynasty’s 15U success this summer. Elder’s stock has continued to rise as we progress in the high school season.
Overall, he is the complete package. He has all of the physical attributes you could ever want in a prospect. He is tall, long, fast, and strong. Elder is very good at using all of these physical gifts on the court, especially in transition and finishing around the rim.
While he would be a great prospect simply because of his outstanding athleticism, he is also very skilled. Elder can shoot the deep ball, finish around the rim, knock down free throws at an extremely high rate, and has very solid handles. It is very hard to single out a valid weakness in his game because he has everything a recruiter could want.
Elder also plays with a lot of passion and fire which really benefits him defensively. He is always pressuring his man, causing them to make mistakes and capitalizing on their turnovers. This usually leads to a lot of break away dunks for Elder.
Jason Elder Projection
My personal opinion is that Elder can play ball at the next level. I see him playing Division-1 ball at a high-mid level school. He is a legit player and should be talked about in the conversation of who is the best 2021 prospect.
If Elder continues to progress the way he has, I see him generating some serious big time interest. I think he could be a 6’8 wing that can shoot the three, play defense, and attack the basket. I can’t think of a school that would not want that on their roster.
I project Elder will have a break out year at Cienaga. I expect him to continue to develop and lead his team to some wins in their division. I am very eager to see how his progression continues and to see how his career develops.
