Recruiting Report: Dominic Chiota (2019)
At East River, Dominic Chiota represents someone with steady play and a true outside touch.
The 5’10”, 190-pounder is a strong guard who likes to pick and pop with the best of them. He commands an offense well for a 2019 prospect.
He has no offers as of now but has drawn interest from Division III programs the University of Chicago and Catholic University.
Chiota broke down his junior campaign.
“Junior year at first was rough for me, but as the season progressed I believe my play improved in rebounding and defending,” Chiota told Prep Hoops. “I’ve always been able to shoot but contributing in other areas is just as rewarding as scoring.”
…I’m most excited about playing with my teammates this year. We had a couple players leave over the summer but the guys we have are great team players. We have good chemistry and I think enjoying playing with one another is huge for our success. East River is home for me and I love playing with my brothers.”
Chiota said that his team is a mix of seniors and inexperienced underclassmen but that his teammates make “the game enjoyable to play and they are a huge part of why I am successful and why I believe we will be successful.”
This summer, he played for TNT Hoopsquad which marked his first year with the program.
“I’ve known coach Nick and coach Gerrod for years. I gained a lot of experience playing in Atlanta with them, which I thought was a great time,” Chiota said. “My coaches gave me great feedback on what to improve on such as playmaking and defending.”
In terms of his biggest strengths, he alluded to his free throw shooting, finish around the rim, defense ability, rebounding and ability to see the floor.
Just watching Chiota for the first time on Wednesday night in the Oviedo Fall League, I saw a confident young man who is a leader by example. His form on his jumper is sound and he can distribute the rock. Even when he’s off the ball, Chiota is always moving around and he is full of energy. He’d be a real contributor for a Division III or NAIA program.
