Recruiting Report: Dantwan Grimes (2019)
Dantwan Grimes is fresh off a standout junior campaign.
The 2019 Vanguard guard averaged 17.9 PPG and 4.1 RPG for the Knights. He netted double digits in all but three games for the 13-13 squad while adding 10 games with 20 plus points.
Grimes had a season-best 32 points in a 61-56 win over North Marion on Jan. 12 and prior to that, he scored a team-high 18 points in a loss against a loaded Atlanta Holy Spirit Prep team at the inagural Prep Hoops Sun Bash in Tampa.
The 6’1″, 160-pounder was voted his team’s player of the year. Currently, he has no offers, but he’s drawn interest from Mercer and Eckerd.
“I have gotten a lot of exposure and have been put on the radar,” Grimes told Prep Hoops. “I’m most excited about this upcoming season with our team this year. I feel like we have a lot of the potential to go far and put on for our city.”
He has played for Thunderstruck on the Adidas Gauntlet the past two years.
Grimes pointed to his biggest strengths as his scoring and pure athleticism. He’s aiming to improve on putting the same effort on both sides of the ball and being more vocal.
Look for another steady year from the senior. Grimes displays core ballhandling skills, high IQ and a fast-paced mentality often. His mid-range touch is nice and he rarely turns down an open look.
Grimes’ leadership skills will have to take the next step forward for this program. His shot selection will also have to be a little bit more consistent. Other than that, the future is bright for the scoring point man.
