Fargo Davies figures to be one of the top teams in the state this upcoming season. Braeton Motschenbacher is a big reason why.
Motschenbacher, a 6-foot-1 shooting guard, averaged 17 points, three rebounds and three assists as a junior, earning all-state honors while leading Davies to 20 wins. He spent the spring and summer playing grassroots with ECI Selects where he had the chance to hone his game against top-flight competition every weekend.
“Playing with ECI was very fun,” said Motschenbacher. “I had a great time getting to know a lot of new great guys and just being able to play basketball and work on my weaknesses out on the court.”
A strong scorer from all levels of the court, Motschenbacher’s shot-making was on display throughout the summer as ECI won 23 games. He’s a natural shot-creator who can not only break down individual defenders, but also serve as a weapon off the ball.
“The one think I got a lot better at over the summer is just my all around skill level and most importantly communication,” said Motschenbacher. “I never used to be a big talker or leader on the court but now I’ve really developed that as a player. The one major thing I want to improve more on as a player is my defense. I believe I have a pretty good offensive game, my defense needs to get a lot better though.”
Motschenbacher’s shooting ability could certainly help a college program at some point. He said he’s unsure if he’ll play basketball in college but if the right opportunity were to arise, he’d be interested.
“I haven’t thought about playing college ball too much but I would like to somewhere,” said Motschenbacher. “I have been in contact with a few coaches but don’t know where I’ll go. I’m hoping more coaches will reach out during the season.”
