Prospect Spotlight: Logan Rashid (2019)
This past offseason with Iowa Pump N Run, Fort Madison’s 5-foot-8 point guard Logan Rashid worked on being the main man.
This coming winter with the Bloodhounds, he’ll need to harness that newfound skill, and could post some big numbers as a result.
A small but quick lead guard, Rashid says getting by defenders to create is how he makes the biggest impact on the floor.
“I’d say for the most part, I’ve just found ways to use my quickness to get by defenders. And I’d say that’s my biggest strength, is getting by that initial defender and making the defense sink so I can get other teammates open,” said Rashid. “And then if I need to score, I can when needed.”
With Pump N Run 17U Gold, Rashid was routinely the best player for his team. It was a new mentality that led him to dominant each weekend out.
“I just took it as I’m going to be the guy and do what I can to help the team win. Whether I need to be the main scorer, and if I’m not hitting then I’d be the main passer. Just being the guy is the way I helped the team overall,” said Rashid, who is now focused on his senior season with Fort Madison.
“I think that mentality of being the guy for Pump N Run is going to carry over into the season; because I’m going to have to be the guy for Fort Madison, too. And definitely be the main scorer and main guy getting assists, and maybe even getting rebounds. I’m going to have to do it all.”
His successful spring and summer with Pump N Run led to some college interest. Rashid named three schools that he’s visited recently.
“I’ve been in talks with St. Ambrose, Loras and Graceland. And I’ve visited each one, so I’m hoping that I can maybe take a step further with those colleges,” said Rashid. “Or, I’m hoping it I play well this summer, I can get some looks from other colleges.”
If college hoops doesn’t work out, then Rashid has other ambitions.
“If I don’t find anything that fits me the best, I’d probably just go to Iowa and try and be a manager for the basketball team,” said Rashid. “But I’m really hoping something works out for college basketball where I can play.”
