Prospect Spotlight: Joe Berry (2021)
Washburn Rural 2021 guard Joe Berry is gearing up for a breakout season after a strong summer.
A 6’2 shooting guard, Berry showed off the ability to attack the rim and shoot with range during Sunday’s Prep Hoops 250 Expo at Blue Valley West. In addition to his offensive skills, Berry says he takes a lot of pride in his work at the defensive end where hiis long wing span helps him block shots.
He is coming off a big offseason competing with KC Team Rush on the Adidas circuit and hopes the experience will pay off this upcoming season.
“(It) allowed me to play against elite competition and it has helped me elevate my game,” Berry says. “The elite competition has prepared me to play upperclassmen in the 6A division.”
Berry is one of the state’s hardest workers, putting several hours per day in the gym and the weight room.
“This offseason I am focusing on getting bigger, faster, and stronger,” he says. “I am working out 3-4 times a day, shooting 400 shots before school, and conditioning with my high school team.”
A fan of former NBA star Kobe Bryant, Berry says a host of coaches have helped shape his basketball career.
“I have been fortunate to have played for some great coaches who have shaped my game into what it is today,” Berry said. “Each coach has helped me develop different skills.”
