Prospect Spotlight: Jevaughn Ferguson (2019)
Jevaughn Ferguson is entering his senior season at Sunrise Christian Academy which will be his third full year in the United States. Hailing from the Bahamas, Jevaughn has dreams of playing college basketball and getting an education in the US.
Jevaughn is a 6’7” traditional low-post who is effective with his back to the basket and on the offensive boards. With high energy levels and a muscular build, he has the strength and effort to have a big impact on the boards and around the rim.
Since coming to America, he has made strides in his game as he used to exclusively use his right hand in the low post, even when using his left was warranted which caused him to get blocked frequently.
As he figured out how to clear space with his body and developed his left hand, Jevaughn saw his success rate down low go up dramatically as he continues to build on that today.
Jevaughn also started playing football this past year which has helped with the physicality he faces on the low block and has improved his hands in regards to catching entry passes and rebounding the basketball.
Although he is a naturally tough athlete, Jevaughn said that playing football has made him even tougher and it’s a sport he really enjoys playing although this only being year two of his football career.
Playing for Mokan Select the prior two years has been good for Jevaughn not only for the exposure but his development over summer. Continuing to play and practice against high level talent keeps him sharp for the season.
Jevaughn will be counted on to be a leader on the select team for Sunrise Christian Academy as he looks to solidify his first offer from a school at the next level.
Academically, Jevaughn got a 1014 on his SAT score heading into his senior season, as he is looking to improve that score as well.
Jevaughn is seeing small college interest including Mid America Nazarene (KS), Goshen College (IN), and Purdue- Northwest.
