Prospect Spotlight: Ja’Quan Johnson-Terry (2019)
JaQuan Johnson-Terry returns as the most experienced player for TC Williams, and one of the best scoring guards in Northern Virginia. The 6-foot-2 senior, who averaged 20 points per game last year, discussed his experience this summer, overall game, and current recruitment in a recent interview with Prep Hoops.
PH: Rate your summer from 1-10, 10 being best. How well do you think you performed and why?
JJ: “A 7. I didn’t really perform my best. I feel like I started off well, but I wasn’t consistent.”
PH: What’s the most improved part of your game?
JJ: “Probably my decision making. Before I would feel sped up all the time. Now I’m patient, I’m seeing the floor more clearly, and I’m getting my teammates involved. My shot has also improved a lot.”
PH: What’s the most underrated part of your game?
JJ: “My bounce. I feel like I can get up a bit.”
PH: What do you think you need to work on?
JJ: “My handle. In college, I’m probably going to be handling the ball more than I do now. Also my strength and my IQ.”
PH: What’s your role going to be like this year?
JJ: “Probably a bit of everything. Playing every position except the 5. Guarding bigger guys. Guarding the opposing team’s best player. Also being a leader.”
PH: What are your short term goals?
JJ: Probably improve my strength so I can be ready for the season. To take contact and stuff like that. Also to improve my grades.
PH: What are your long term goals?
JJ: “I’m trying to win the district championship, and then states.”
PH: Who’s recruiting you right now?
JJ: “Virginia State, Augusta, and Marymount.”
PH: When do you think you will decide on a school?
JJ: “I don’t know, maybe after the season. I’m just trying to wait and find the best fit for me.”
PH: What do you think you can bring to a college program?
JJ: “I can bring some energy, and spread the floor out with my jump shot.”
