Prospect Spotlight: Haime Roberts (2019 Clover Park HS)
Haime Roberts is looking for an opportunity. The hard-working 5-foot-9, 155-pound point guard is looking forward to an increased role at Clover Park High School his senior season and he spent his summer preparing himself. Roberts played AAU ball and camped at a number of places – including the recent PrepHoops Top 250 Expo in Bellevue – all in an effort to earn a scholarship to play at the next level.
The summer for Roberts started off with AAU ball. “I ran the point guard and started and I feel like I played good – we were a growing AAU team and weren’t really known,” Roberts said. “I got my teammates involved, moved the ball, and did the dirty work on either end. When my coach needed me to score, I would go to the rack and shoot. Overall, I worked on all of my craft, so I worked on my defense, my shot, reading my opponents what they do and rolling off of screens.”
Roberts also spent a good amount of time at camps. In addition to the PrepHoops Top 250 Expo, he was able to camp at Cal State East Bay, Cal State Maritime, Dominican, San Francisco State, and George Fox, and is hopeful that he was able to make an impression.
“Hopefully I’ll have a big senior year and be potentially blessed with a scholarship,” Roberts said. “I’m trying to get into criminal justice, so I’m hoping for a school that has that, but if not then business. I can fit into any kind of style – I’ve gotten play with a lot of talented players and I showed that I could compete with them.”
Roberts seemed to indicate that staying closer to home would be preferrable but he’s open to all of his options. He knows a big senior season will help him achieve his goals and he’s ready to take on the challenge.
“I didn’t get as many minutes as I wanted as I played behind one of the best point guards in the state,” Roberts said. “So hopefully this year I’ll take over the point guard position and lead the team and get us to State.”
