Prospect Spotlight: Dylan Peeters (2019)
With one D2 offer in tow and still his senior season ahead to showcase his ability, Davenport Assumption 6-foot-8 forward Dylan Peeters seems far from done with his recruitment process.
Illinois program McKendree offered Peeters this past summer, and he’s also a high academic guy, who’s intrigued by high academic schools. D1 is not out of the picture either.
“I’ve talked to a lot of D2 schools, I’ve talked to Quincy a lot,” said Peeters.” And I went on a visit to University of Chicago last week, and that’s more of an academic school.”
He added: “I’ve also been looking into walking on at three of the D1 Iowa schools; Drake, UNI and Iowa.”
Whatever is the case, the lengthy big-man says he’ll likely wait to make a decision.
“I’m probably going to wait out my senior year and see what happens, and I’ll make my decision after my senior season ends,” he said.
Traditionally, Peeters has played in the paint, but he says he’s been working of late to work on a perimeter skill-set, rendering him a much more versatile threat.
“The main thing I’ve really been trying to improve on is my strength. I’ve spent a lot of time in the weight-room just trying to improve that aspect. And I’ve been trying to improve my guard skills because we graduated three of our starting guards, so I’ve just been trying to develop some of my ball-handling, passing and things like that,” said Peeters.
He was working on all those parts of his game while playing with Quad City Elite 17U this past spring and summer. A team that featured one of the nation’s hottest prospects, Bettendorf point guard DJ Carton.
“We’ve been playing together for three years and that helped us all individually. And especially having DJ, that got us all a lot of exposure,” said Peeters. “And we just fed of him and it was just a really good opportunity.”
Now, the focus has shifted towards his senior season with the Knights, where it’s state or bust for Peeters and Co.
“It’s going to be different this year, we’ve had two three-year players that just graduated,” he said. “We definitely want to improve on the results of the last two years. We definitely want to get to state this year.”
Dylan Peeters is ranked by Prep Hoops as a top 40 prospect in his class.
