Prospect Spotlight: 2021 James Gross, Jr.
One of the most exciting players to watch this past weekend in Baltimore at the MD/DC Top 250 Exposure Camp was James Gross. James is a 6’2 sophomore that attends Rock Creek Christian Academy. James showed off his versatility and athleticism all day long as there were not a lot of defenders stopping him while out in transition. He talked about his versatility with us.
“I was born with it but I workout a lot to keep up with it. I am always running so I don’t lose it and I just want to be able to always have it when I am on the court.”
He also added a little more talking about his overall game, “I am always in attack mode trying to go to the rim and always trying to get others involved. I wouldn’t consider myself a pass first guy but I love to get other people involved and I love attacking the rim and getting rebounds and just all of the other stuff that other people don’t like to do.”
James is coming off a productive summer, “Summer went pretty good. On the AAU circuit I played with DC Premier, on the 15U age group on the Under Armour circuit. We had a good stretch and a good run so overall it was a pretty good summer.
He was really excited about getting out to the MD/DC Top 250 Exposure Camp, “I am just trying to have fun, that is all it is really. Playing basketball and having fun is something I love. I love the sport, I love to play it and playing against all of my friends from across the area and across the circuit is a lot of fun.”
Rock Creek Christian had a successful year last year and James thinks they can be pretty good again, ” I am at Rock Creek Christian Academy this year, new coach, new program really. The old coach left, but we have a solid group of guards, and I think we are going to be good.
He broke down where things currently stand involving his recruitment, ““I have one offer right now from Bryant University, with interest from George Mason, Stony Brook and Tulane.
He talked about his close relationship with Bryant, “Well the old Rock Creek coach, I was good friends with him and he was like a mentor to me, Chris Cole, he offered me and told me that he told the head coach about me and he just wants me to keep working. The program has interest in me now so when I get older then they will follow through and maybe I would go there.”
