Prospect Intro: Gage Mabry (2022)
Spencer County has a strong young core returning for this season and freshman Gage Mabry hopes to add his name to the list of top young players in the 8th region. Gage told PHKY, “I try to be well rounded and keep my team involved on the floor. I believe my strengths are passing and seeing the plays evolve to set my teammates up before the defense can adjust. I need to adjust to varsity level play and get my body ready for the next level.” As a part of the program at Spencer County, Mabry is hoping to be a contributor to the team and learn from the upperclassmen and coaching staff as he adjusts to the high school level. With Sophomores Jake Whitlock and Sam Conley to learn from and a Senior leader like Jacob Cole, Gage should have plenty of mentors trying to help him make an impact this season for Jason Burns’ squad this season.
Coming into his freshman year, Mabry spent his spring and summer playing up a grade level with Kentucky Premier 2021 AAU. Gage said of his AAU experience, “The season went well. We competed in every game and overcame adversity through injuries.” Mabry added that AAU taught him how to play at a high level and learn from his mistakes. With a relatively young team at Spencer County, Gage Mabry is focused on individual improvement in his first season of high school basketball. “My individual goals are to become stronger and improve as a defender. I want to earn varsity time.” Mabry went on to add he intends to help his team get better by pushing them every time they are together. Look for Mabry and his Spencer County teammates to make a push for a birth in the 8th region tournament this season..
