Program Awards: Kentucky Ambition
With the 2018 AAU season in the rear view mirror, we are going to dive into programs across the state looking at their teams in a variety of categories in our Program Awards! Today we examine Kentucky Ambition!
Program MVP
Sam Campbell, Oldham County
Sam was the most consistent player in the program for Ambition this season. Campbell is probably underrated in our 2021 rankings currently and he will be able to prove it this season on a relatively young Oldham County team. Others in the program had bigger games but Sam could be counted on to be consistent from game to game.
Top 2019 Prospect
Tyione Downs, Doss
Downs had a modest Junior season for the Dragons but a good AAU season for Ambition. Doss could use Tyione having a big season after they graduated several Seniors and have a relatively inexperienced team coming back this season.
Top 2020/2021 Prospect
Baylor Mattingly, Lincoln County
Baylor had several high scoring games over the course of the season and especially in July. Mattingly has the potential to get hot from 3 in a hurry and has good size as a young shooting guard. If Baylor wants to start working towards his potential, he needs to start putting the ball on the floor more and be more than a catch and shoot player.
Sleeper
Zavian Jackson, Southern
Jackson is long and athletic and should see plenty of chances to play at Southern this season with a young team. Zavian’s ceiling as a prospect will be determined by if he grows and can get more wing skill. If Jackson is going to be a post player or a wing that can’t shoot, his ceiling will be significantly lower.
Biggest Stock Riser
Nick Roemer, Kentucky Country Day
Another member of the 15u Ambition team, Roemer started in the back court next to Sam Campbell and helped Ambition to some solid wins over the course of the AAU season. At KCD, Roemer should see a lot of playing time for a team that will be looking for offense after Solomon Mathis and his 21 PPG graduated last season.
