Preseason All-Conference: Corner
Player of the Year: 2019 Drake Johnson, Stanton
The senior wing was also our Player of the Year pick last preseason, and he backed up that selection by averaging 22 points and leading the Vikings in rebounding, assists and steals to boot. Look for another huge statistical season out of the 6-3 Johnson, as Stanton’s stranglehold on the Corner Conference continues.
First Team
2019 Drake Johnson, Stanton (22.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 3.2 steals, 52.4 FG%)
The conference’s leading scorer last season led the Vikings to 21 wins and was the team’s statistical leader in every major category. Look for the long, rangy wing to have a massive senior season as Stanton continues to dominate the league.
2019 Donnie Weis, Stanton (18.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.9 steals, 55.9 FG%, 43.0 3P%)
The league’s second leading returning scorer is also from Stanton in the form of this 5-11 guard. A highly efficient scoring threat, he’s equally adept getting to the rim or shooting it from deep. The league’s most deadly shooter, he and Johnson will score a ton of points for the Vikings this winter.
2019 Mason Vanatta, Fremont-Mills (16.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.5 steals, 56.2 FG%)
This 6-1 wing was the leading scorer for the Knights last year by more than 10 points a game, and he’ll be the focal point of their attack again this year. A slasher who does a majority of his damage around the rim, he’ll try to lead Fremont-Mills to the top of the league this year.
2019 Brady Lorimor, Sidney (10.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, 53.7 FG%)
An efficient 6-3 forward, Lorimor is one of the conference’s best two-way players with his rim protection abilities. Don’t be surprised to see him average a double-double this year for the Cowboys.
2019 Riley Story, East Mills (11.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 3.1 steals)
The diminutive 5-9 guard led the Wolverines in scoring last season and is a defensive menace with his ability to play the passing lanes or defend on the ball. If he can become a better decision maker (30 assists to 74 turnovers last year), he could be in line for a huge senior season.
