Prep Hoops Awards — Class of 2022
We’re a week removed from the 2018 Colorado Top 250 expo and what a wonderful turnout of student athletes that came out and competed. We did a full break down of each class and conclude our awards with the class of 2022 as they have a bright future.
MVP —Langston Reynolds
As a freshman it’s good to see the younger guys go at it with the upperclassmen and you can notice the difference in classes with their strength, size and basketball IQ. It’s a way to measure your game against the more experienced guys and you want to know if you can go out and compete with the older players, maybe even have a couple of good plays or so but not Langston he has his sights on bigger things. Langston was a competitor that made a difference with his time on the floor. He was moving around, making plays and made his presence known, especially on the defensive end. Standing at 6’3 he has a solid build and can bang inside with the bigs but also is quick enough to keep up with smaller guards. He is a playmaker that also got to the rim off the dribble at will during the course of the day while still being able to show a variety of moves with his back to the basket. Being that he is the only a freshman, he has plenty of time to work on his jumper as it will need improvement for him to take the next steps in becoming a better player, but with his work ethic he is surely on his way.
Best Shooter– Kameron Goodrich
Kameron is one of those smaller guards that people tend to write off just based off looks, it isn’t till he lights them up that they quickly realize this kid can play. He showed he is able to score from all 3 levels of the floor comfortably but what separates him from the rest of his class, is his shooting touch from mid and deep range. His high IQ and great court awareness makes it to easy for him to get the shots he wants and get to his spots. With what he displayed on Sunday he should be able to impress coaches at Holy Family once open gyms starts and become part of the team’s future early.
Best Floor General — Isaiah Black
Isaiah Black was easily the best pure point of the freshmen class on the day. No, he didn’t fill the stat sheets up with a large amount of points, but he made all of the right plays. He was a playmaker on both ends of the floor and made things happen. He go easy layups from constant movement and too much help on shooters and also switched it up and showed he could penetrate and kick it. On defense he had active hands in the passing lanes and won just about all the 50/50 plays with hustle.
Best Slasher — Dylan Sanders
Dylan at first glance may look like a 3 or 4 due to his length, but once you see him handle the ball you quickly realize he is versatile which will allow him to be used in many ways. He is an attacking point guard that is dangerously athletic and can finish at the rim with the best of them. Over the next couple of years this will be a kid that I’m sure will take many be surprise as his games starts to mature. Dylan will continue to fill out and work on his game and should sure be a great offensive weapon down the line at Smoky Hill.
Best Rim Protecter —Aidan Carnevale
Aidan is as intimidating as they come only being a freshmen but standing at 6’7 he turns a lot of heads. At times he blocked shots without even trying. His presences in the paint was unmatched at times during key moments of the day and he altered okenty of shots as one of the bigger guys at the expo. Once he gets his timing at the rim right, defenders will surely stick to shooting jumpers and not going into the paint. On the offensive end expanding his game will be the next step as he has to get more comfortable in that mid range area and maybe also the 3 at times so that he’s not stacking up the paint.
