Newsome hosts Strawberry Crest and Plant City in fall league action
On Thursday night in Lithia, Newsome Wolves hosted Strawberry Crest Chargers and Plant City Raiders. The Wolves and the Raiders both defeated the Chargers in blow out fashion, the Wolves topped the Raiders in a very close contest.
Takeaways and Players to watch:
Newsome Wolves – a well coached and very disciplined team. They ran quality sets and swung the ball until they got wide open shots. If I had to describe this team in 1 word, it’d be “patient.” Brazinski will be a player to watch, he tends to do a lil of everything. Defensively, guys moved well and rotated to perfection. All players played help side well and closed out defensive posessions boxing out and rebounding.
Plant City Raiders – the Raiders are a run and gun team. They will have 7 returning seniors so they have a ton of experience. They play a number of different defenses and are at their best when they get stops and can push the rock and fill the wings with all the shooters they have. In half court sets, they make it a point to get Bethune Cookman commit 6’7 Justyn King the ball. With shooters like Andrew Johnson, Mykel Oyola, and Jadyn Strawder spotting up, King has plenty of space to work the from the high to low block.
Strawberry Crest Chargers – the Chargers are a work in progress but have the talent to surprise some teams. They are led by 2 seniors, Jalen Brown and Romaire Burke. In addition to Brown and Burke, they have a budding star in sophomore Charles Crews who lights it up with his scoring ability. The Chargers are very athletic team, they play mostly man but occasionally run a little zone. Coach Andre Lewis has some work to do but as I stated before, they can surprise some teams and make a district run.
