Marquise Kennedy to Loyola
It has been quite a rise for Brother Rice 2019 point guard Marquise Kennedy over the last six months. He emerged as a priority mid-major target during the spring with his play for the Illinois Wolves garnering double digit offers. On Monday the senior guard made his college decision as he committed to Loyola. Kennedy visited the Ramblers over the weekend and told PHI that it just felt right!
“I had a great time when I went. It felt like home. Amazing coaching staff an amazing atmosphere they have there.”
What was their selling point why he should be part of their class?
“Being home and building a powerhouse here in Chicago.”
Kennedy joins two of his Illinois Wolves program mates at Loyola in Naperville North power forward Tom Welch and La Lumiere (IN) guard Paxson Wojcik. Quite a class for Loyola coming off their final four appearance! With Welch and Kennedy that gives the MVC program two of the top eight prospects in the state for the class of 2019.
The 6’1” guard has long arms, an angular build, and bounce. Kennedy is tough taking it to the hoop on slick drives and also can hit an occasional three. Defensively he blocks shots and shows some lateral quickness. Made major strides in running a team throughout the spring and summer as a floor general. Kennedy presents quality athleticism at the lead guard spot. Tough leader that elevated his stock throughout the spring and summer with the Illinois Wolves 17U on the UAA circuit where he averaged 9.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per contest. Shot 48% from the field going 6-15 from three point land.
Kennedy is currently the #2 point guard and #4 overall prospect in the state of Illinois. He chose Loyola over Wichita State who he visited the previous weekend.
