Locked In: Ohio 2019 Rankings Update
The class of 2019 Prospect Rankings are updated. This rendition replaces our update from early-June. The data points that went into today’s update are led by the July Live Period but also include watching film (shout out to Baller TV), talking with colleagues and coaches, the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo, and other events.
Oh! Also, there was an unusual amount of player movement across the state. Some of your favorite players and top prospects aren’t coming back for their senior campaign. This trend is led by Alonzo Gaffney and Andre Gordon, who are preparing for the freshman year of college ball at Brewster Academy and Huntington Prep respectively. Those two, most likely, would’ve been in the top three had they stayed.
But Ohio was also the recipient of an out-of-state transfer, Jaelyn Withers, a Louisville verbal commit from Charlotte, NC, who leads our 2019 list.
Withers is followed by Jeremiah Francis, the second Pickerington Central prospect in three years recruited to play for Roy Williams at North Carolina. Francis’s ongoing knee injury will prevent him from playing senior year.
A trio of verbally committed guards follow Francis to fill-out the top five. Samari Curtis has found a new home with the Univ. of Cincinnati after de-committing from Xavier over the summer. Miles “Deuce” McBride reclaims his top five spot after proving healthy in appearances with Indiana Elite. He remains committed to West Virginia. Finally, Winthrop commit Josh Corbin has remained hot enough to stay in the top five.
This level of movement near the top is unusual for a class heading into their final high school season. But the injury woes and out-of-state transfers forced our hand. As a result, the scene of top Ohio prospects for this upcoming high school season will look different in ways we couldn’t have predicted six months ago, including the entire top five being locked in to college commitments.
For a full database of senior college prospects, complete with the correct high schools attached to their name and updated college commitments for 37 prospects, you can find it all on Prep Hoops Ohio underneath the Rankings tab.
We will continue to update the RANKINGS database throughout the high school season and provide a city-by-city look of the 2019 class throughout the week.
