Four defending state champs highlight Kreul Showcase field
Four FHSAA defending state champions are in the field for the Nov. 30-Dec. 1 Kreul Showcase, which was released Tuesday afternoon.
University School, the 2017-18 Class 5A state champions, Blanche Ely (8A champs), Westminster Academy (4A champs) and Miami Christian (2A champs) are all in the field. The two-day event will be held at Monarch High School in Coconut Creek.
University School and Ely will meet in the final game of the night Saturday, Dec. 1, at 9:15 p.m. The Sharks are led by 6-foot-10 senior All-American Vernon Carey Jr. and 6-8 junior Scottie Barnes. The Tigers are coached by veteran Melvin Randall, who has won a record eight state championships.
Westminster Academy will play perennial Palm Beach County powerhouse Wellington at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 1. Westminster Academy has been to three consecutive Class 4A state championship games under coach Ehren Wallhoff, winning two of them. Wellington lost to Orlando Oak Ridge in last season’s Class 9A state title game.
Miami Christian, back-to-back state champs in 2A, will play Somerset Pines at 9:30 p.m. in the final game on Friday, Nov. 30.
