Fayetteville Academy Open Gym/Workout
The Eagles will attempt to bounce back and be a force in their conference this season after having a disappointing finish to the season last year. Fayetteville Academy has a brand new coaching staff which is led by Coach Bill Boyette who has won a ton of games at Terry Sanford HS which included a state championship. During their open gym session the team matched up against some JUCO players from around the state as well as players that will be moving on to the college level. So lets take a look at the top 5 contributors that Fayetteville Academy will have this season, and the players that colleges should keep an eye on.
2019 PG John Michael Wright: He was the most dominant player throughout the workout and will have a big time season this year, he can score the ball at a high level and his experience on the EYBL circuit will only benefit him. He’s picked up offers from numerous Low Major and Mid Major programs so far and will only see his recruitment increase.
2019 F/C Emmanuel Izunabor: We love the progress that he has made over the past few years and college coaches have taken notice without a doubt. He can rebound the ball at a very high rate, block shots, and has gotten much better and finishing through contact in the paint. His recruitment has been steady with D1 programs at the Low and Mid levels recruiting him, whatever program that gets him will be getting a player with loads of potential in a 6’9 strong frame.
2019 Forward Williams Oyeondi: He is somewhat of an undersized Forward for this team but he has picked up some D2 offers and could easily slide to the Low Major level with some good performances this year. At 6’4 with strength and athletic ability he finds ways to impact the game at a high level and will is one of those players that you constantly see playing with a high motor.
2021 Guard Walter Ghaffar: One of the more surprising athletes that you will, he seems to have bounce that comes out of nowhere, one second he is at a normal jog, the next moment he is flying above the rim for a dunk. The upside he has is intriguing as we know he will only get better over time with what he can bring to the table, expect for him to have a nice season this year.
2019 Wing Cam Billups: There were moments during his sophomore season that he gave the team some good time and we should expect the same thing from him this season. The ability to knock down shots from the wing and his potential to be a solid defender is key for him, he just needs to stay locked in and confident and he could find himself getting some nice mins.
