Dodge Florida Shootout: Top Performers
The 23rd Annual Dodge Florida Shootout began on Saturday on the campus of IMG Academy.
An individual showcase took place on the two main courts as the high school showcase will be held on Sunday with 30 plus programs.
Here is a look at the players that stood out the most to me.
Jonathan Renois (Somerset)
The most consistent offensive creator was Jonathan Renois. A 5’11”, 165-pounder, the 2021 guard was driving to the basket with ease, knocking down the mid-range and grabbing boards off two feet. He can dunk when given proper room to run and his energy is contagious among his teammates.
Jemal Davis (Okeechobee)
Picking up where left off after the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo in Daytona on Sept. 9, 2019 Okeechobee forward Jemal Davis was highly productive on Saturday. The lengthy 6’7″ athlete has solid handles, takes smart shots and isn’t afraid to slash against anyone. Davis has very underrated passing skills which he displayed with a few one-handed no-look feeds.
Sean Shore (Evangelical Christian)
Standing at 6’5″, Sean Shore is a scorer simple and plain. He thrives on the break as a spot up shooter and at times was making it happen inside as an attacker. The 2020 Evangelical Christian guard is a vocal leader who can score in bunches. His shot selection can improve at times, but he’s plenty to deal with.
Jacob Kester (IMG)
Playing bigger than his 6’0″ frame, Jakob Kester has a forward mindset. The 2019 IMG guard/forward has a smooth release on his jumper. He was able to hit from the mid-range spot on the floor often and create his own looks.
Rodney Bryant (Mount Dora Christian)
One of the top younger players at our expo a few weeks back, 2021 Mount Dora Christian G Rodney Bryant is always making defenses pay. Bryant is skinny at 5’11”, but he shoots well (even uses the backboard to ensure 3’s from the top of the key) and he can drive inside nicely. He’s on the fast track for a big role as a sophomore.
Tyler Krivitzkin (Cypress Bay)
A natural leader at point guard, Tyler Krivitzkin is used to handling the rock and dishing out passes at his high school Cypress Bay. The 5’10” guard enters his senior season as a 2019 prospect and he’s able to stretch the floor when given room. Krivitzkin is a reliable threat as a shooter and passer.
Milos Merrick (IMG)
On his 17th birthday, Milos Merrick opted to play in the Dodge Shootout showcase instead of the take the day off from hoops. He was also a participant in our showcase where he showed moments of steady play. It was more of the same for the 6’4″ IMG guard. The 2020 athlete is a high IQ and a 3-point stretch shooter.
