There was never a doubt in Arnold Henderson’s mind that he was going to sport a VCU jersey in college. He attended games growing up and was a fan ever since stepping foot in the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
After developing a strong relationship with the Rams’ coaching staff, the 5-foot-10 guard earned the opportunity to walk on to the basketball team – one he could never pass up.
“I’ve always been a VCU fan my whole life, and I’ve always followed VCU,” Henderson said. “I felt like it was a great opportunity to be invited to be a part of the program because I know Coach Rhoades is a great coach.
“I am really looking forward to playing for him.”
Most prospects in this era look to find the program where they will get playing time as fast as possible, but that wasn’t a concern for Henderson throughout the recruiting process. Before accepting the walk-on spot, Henderson was receiving interest from Division II and III coaches.
Despite being a young team, Henderson mentioned that the St. Christopher team will have high expectations heading into the winter. After multiple seniors departed following last season, he will be the leader of this year’s roster.
‘I’m really looking forward to stepping into the role as a leader,” Henderson said. “Just transitioning to that role is what I will continue to work on.”
