Class of 2020 High Potential Prospects
Good basketball players are always looking for a way to continue their development. As that development comes, more college interest usually comes with. These are the players of 2020 that I think have a ton of potential and could become even better with development:
Evan Nelson (Salpointe):
Evan Nelson is already one of the top 2020’s in the entire state. However, I still think he has a ton of room to grow, which is a credit to Nelson. Evan has one of the most well-rounded games I have seen in such a young prospect, but I think his potential comes from the physical side. Nelson is only 6’1 and very thin, despite his suggested side disadvantage, he uses his athleticism and skill to work his opponents. However, imagine how great he could become if he grew. If Nelson can grow and put on some muscle, he will be a very scary prospect.
Dominic Gonzalez (Ironwood):
Dominic Gonzalez is one of the best shooters in the class of 2020. He can shoot the three ball very well and also has a great mid-range game, which is a lost art. His potential also steams from the psychical side of the ball. Gonzalez has all of the fundamentals and skill to play at the next level but lacks a bit in athleticism. If he could improve on his speed, jumping ability, and explosion, he will generate a lot of attention for himself.
Khalid Whitaker (Flowing Wells):
Khalid Whitaker has all of the skill to play college ball. He can shoot, dribble, pass the ball, and play defense. Everything a coach wants. However, he suffers from a similar problem as Evan Nelson. Khalid is only 5’9 and while he is very fast, lacks explosion. If he could grow a couple of inches and improve on his bounce, he would be a very interesting prospect. Khalid also needs to show that he can lead a team effectively. He is the heart and soul of Flowing Wells and they have not had a great record these last couple seasons. I would like to see him lead that team to some solid victories.
