American Canyon High School: Team Preview
American Canyon High School opened in the fall of 2010. Its state of the art facilities and great campus made the school very attractive to young kids in the Napa and Solano County area. However, despite the excitement around the school and the success of its football program, the basketball program struggled for the first five years of the school’s existence. During the 2016-2017 season, American Canyon would see its first playoff appearance for basketball. They would follow that season by making the playoffs a second time last season and even hosting its first home playoff game in school history. The 2018-2019 will already be historic as the school will enter a new conference that will also feature Napa, Vintage, Justin-Siena, Casa Grande, and Sonoma High Schools.
After losing the MVP of the Solano County Athletic Conference Malik Ghiden, this year’s team will be interesting to watch. Senior wing Sam Johannasen will return to action after missing all of last year due to a torn ACL. Juniors Roman Madayag, Matthew Clinton, and Oliver Aandahl will have much bigger roles this season. Perhaps the biggest addition may come from Sophomore transfer Gabe Patrick who is listed as one of the top players in Nor-Cal out of the 2021 class. American Canyon could be a dangerous team in the NCS section and Head Coach Brett Wedding will look to get the Wolves their first playoff win this season.
